Remake of Disney's DuckTales

Surprisingly good platformer I’ve enjoyed quite a bit.
First thing to note is just how good looking and sounding it is. The graphics and animations are really top notch and feel like taken straight from the cartoon. Soundtrack has also been remastered and sounds really good with some real bangers (the moon theme hit me as it did remind me of GDQ - and it’s an awesome track).
Game wise - I never played the original so I don’t know how much has changed - but it plays really solid. Very classic platforming enhanced with the pogo mechanic. I’m glad that they did add the easy pogo mode as a default - tried the classic one and that would make the game definitely less enjoyable. But it’s nice that it is still an option.
Locations are interesting. Level design is fine as well - though it’s possible to get lost in some levels - but the overview map makes up for that. The general game structure is as follows - you get into a level, collect some things and then you get to fight the boss. For each level you get a number of lives depending on the difficulty level …

The general game structure is as follows - you get into a level, collect some things and then you get to fight the boss. For each level you get a number of lives depending on the difficulty level and if you run out you need to start the entire level over. It does feel a little bit outdated but the challenge was welcome and the levels themselves are not all that long for it to matter too much. Also the game would be much shorter with the modern checkpoint system.
The controls are almost perfect, but in some cases do not perform exactly as I’d like them. In some cases the pogo or the jump doesn’t register which makes them just a little bit off and that was annoying. Especially on the final stage
I’ve really liked the game. I would have loved it with better controls, longer levels with classic checkpoints perhaps. But still had a lot of fun and would recommend it to anyone up for a good old platformer.
The pros: Ducktales Remastered is a great 2d platformer. The graphics are done in the style of the cartoon which gives the game a timeless look. I played it 10 years after it was released and it still looks great. The levels are awesome looking, there is variety and and the hand drawn backgrounds are fantastic. The enemies really fit the levels as well. The music score is amazing, although a bit repetitive but it really fits the level themes well. There is voice acting by the original cast which is appreaciated as well (However no lip synching is kinda cringe). The controls often make or break games like these because they have to be precise to match the dufficulty of the game. Ducktales remastered doesnt dissapoint on that front either, its has buttery smooth control, very precise and in most cases it will be the players own fault for dying. The cons: Really short game, about a 5 hour story, which depends on the player scewing up and dying multiple times to add length to the gameplay. Also, i found it a missed opportunity to not be able to unlock and play with any other charcters other than scrooge …

I know its faithful to the original but i wanted more content. It would be great to be able to unlock extra stages, costumes or even characters to play as with the money that you gather as currency throughout the adventure. You CAN buy concept art and sounds from the gallery with it, which is great but not enough for me. Lastly, i beleive that the game didnt take the opportunity to add new mechanics and interesting concepts from a level design standpoint. It feels like it has some great ideas but doesnt do enough interesting things with them. I know this is a remaster of a game from 30 years ago but it still doesnt compete with some of the greatest 2d platformers of recent years. SCORE: 80%

This is a retro re-release at its finest. The game feels like its classic counterpart, but it has a number of improvements to make it more palatable to a modern gaming audience. The best thing about this remake is its presentation, which has been carefully crafted. I feel completely satisfied about the way the developer managed the difficulty of the game: the last level of the remake was more demanding than any of the original levels. The entire time I was engrossed in the game and having genuine fun and it went by quite quickly, a duck blur, if you will.
Fun and short play. It's definitely hard if you play on medium or hard because of the limited amount of lives. I switched to easy and just ran through the game.
One of the finest 8-bit remastered games I've played: https://thewellredmage.wordpress.com/2016/02/22/du...
Way too short with 4h story. Unfair parts. Still charming. 7/10

Just a heads up and whatnot in case you miss it! It will be gone by the 8th.
Free from PS Plus. Always heard good things about the original, but I have no nostalgia associated with the game, and that seems to be key in your level of enjoyment.
I finally got around to playing this game for a couple hours yesterday. I've been playing the soundtrack in my head for every waking moment since then. Let's see how long this lasts for...
