The Good
- The core gameplay is amazing, just like in Sniper Elite 5.
- Killcam never gets old.
- It's nice to hear a different voice actor.
- The 'Kill Hitler' mission is basically a Hitman mission with tons of alternate ways to kill Hitler, like booby-trapping the toilet with a grenade.
- Incredibly extensive options menu with tons of sound sliders, accessibility options, etc.
- The funniest flavour texts i've seen in Sniper Elite games. You will find one guy who "thinks Churchill is a lizard in a human suit" and then later find someone who thinks "he's an idiot because it's clearly Roosevelt who is a lizard". There are so many funny weird ones too like "eats his toenail clippings" or "never mastered the goose step".
- Authentic difficulty can be really tense.
- Improved weapon unlock requirements.
The Bad
- Weapon unlocks are still restrictive. They should just use XP for unlocks.
- There are a few bugs, notably people sometimes falling through the floor when you choke them out.
- I didn't care at all for the new propaganda missions, especially the stealth ones.
- You can't place traps in a specific spot and disabling them is harder on higher difficulty settings, making you crawl around in a circle to find the exact spot.
The Ugly
- Selling weapons as DLC for €4 each is awful.
- The map design and waypoints are awful at times. I had to look up too many workbench and objective locations. Sometimes i struggled to find something even with a map showing the location. I never had this problem in previous games.
Conclusion
Even with its flaws Sniper Elite Resistance is a fantastic game. I kept cracking up at the flavour text. Shooting a Nazi after you've discovered he "takes his cereal without milk" or "has fond memories of executing resistance members" makes it so much better. If you're only buying a couple of games this year (like me), get this.
