(It has some of the naughty looking sprite-draw lines of SNK games but its not that bad in most spots) The level design generally features waves of enemies but there are also special tricks and puzzles (regarding engagement and what must be destroyed, similiar to say some of the things in parodius) that spice things up enough to make it interesting
The audio leaves a lot to be desired, powerups are average and fairly simple with no covoluted schemes. The worst part about this game is imo the controls. It's very difficult to move the ship just a teensy bit. The orbiting 'option' with its ability to lock position is seemingly at odds with a very finnicky moving craft that requires you to move in small amounst just to aim the option.
It is however quite playable and I played it on the PS2 SNK Arcade Classics 1.
Worth a try if instantly recognize the akira bits, and your a crusty cyborg pilot who likes 90s shmups, most normal folks need only see a lets play of the first level though.
