Port of Darius
2.67 average rating based on 3 ratings
Darius Plus is a home port of the arcade game (Darius). I wanted to see what a horizontal shooter would like, and immediately thought of the game known for its very long horizontal screen.
In any case this is a crazy hard game. However it looks a bit nice and bright (arguable) with a very vibrant color palette. How much of an upgrade that is from the TurboGrafx-16 is tough to say, i've only played maybe a dozen or so games on it and the quality varies quite far and wide (but they tend to be nicer looking than nes games more often than not) With this game i think it's a matter of preference how you might think it would look... But, the levels all look different (though some of the sectors recylce themselves, as you can choose to some extent where you want to go next ala Cstlevania) The chief strength of this game is it's soundtrack and music hardware. It's a very unique sound that is well composed and fits well within the game itself, or at least I felt it did.

Darius has a mechanic which is pretty helpful to know which is you have three different upgrade systems that you can boost until you max them out, then you upgrade to a new tier. if you die before you can upgrade to that tier, then you have to start over again, but if you actually make it (and there is no way in hell anyone could make it) then you can lock in your upgrades and begin a new tier. I don't know how many tiers there are as i could only get my three systems to level 2.
That's a shame because things move quite quickly and those upgrades would help.
In the end this is just another average shooting game. And if you were like me and curious to check out what the few SGFX games are like, well you aren't missing much by avoiding this one anyway.
