The game's title is a parody of Super Street Fighter II Turbo (or Super Street Fighter II X in Japan), as there are no other Puzzle Fighter games, and the game includes music and interface elements spoofing the Street Fighter Alpha and Darkstalkers games. It was a response to SEGA's popular Puyo Puyo 2 that has been sweeping Japanese arcade. A HD-remake version titled Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, is available for purchase on Microsoft's Xbox Live Arcade and Sony's PlayStation Network.

RossBonaime's review of Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo

A decent attempt for Capcom to jump into the world of puzzle games, but one that doesn't have enough challenge or ability to really strategize to make it all that replayable. This is a game that Capcom has thrown into all sorts of collections over the decades, and every time, I give it another whirl, and it's fine. One playthrough every few years is all I need. It just doesn't have the addictive nature that I want from a puzzle game, or the ability to try and improve upon my skills, since there really isn't any room for that. And yeah, picking different Capcom characters is a cute addition to this game, but it doesn't really add anything to the mix. A fun little curiosity, but this has never been anything more than that for me.

I can beat easy and medium arcade mode just dropping the blocks as fast as I can and watching for a single color clear diamond. Drop the diamond on a color and is really scattered around and win the round from combo clears after that. It's a cool fan service and the gameplay on the surface looks like it has some strategy. Until you get into the game a bit and just start speed dropping everything.
