The gameplay is very similar to other Capcom beat 'em ups, such as Final Fight and Capcom's previous hack-and-slash fantasy title The King of Dragons. There are seven stages, each with its own boss and a variety of generic enemies that try to stop the players' progress. The fights rely strongly on blocking ability, which is triggered by pressing the attack button, then pressing the joystick away as the opponent strikes. If successful, the player gains a few seconds of invincibility with which to counter-attack. However, if no one strikes the player's character while holding the block, they will tire … More

If successful, the player gains a few seconds of invincibility with which to counter-attack. However, if no one strikes the player's character while holding the block, they will tire and drop their guard, making them vulnerable to attack. Blocking is vital in certain cases, since some bosses will be vulnerable only after their attack has been blocked by the player. As in most beat 'em ups, a desperation attack is performed by pressing both the attack and jump buttons simultaneously. This knocks out most enemies on the screen, but the player loses a little bit of health every time he uses it. Less

Another Capcom Beat 'em up collection game.

I'm not too big on the Sir Arthur lore, so that was pretty whatever. Disappointed I couldn't be Gawain though. Going from 4 players back to 3 seems like a bit of a downgrade. I do like the art and animation and the mounts feel better than the ones in Captain Commando at least. The progression system seems neat, it is based on your score, so I wonder how the dynamic of last hitting and picking up items would play out in multiplayer sections. I will say that the benefits for progression weren't as obvious to me as it was in King of the Dragons. Also pro tip, it might help to watch the intro demo that plays before the game starts because I didn't realize there was a guard/counter-attack system in this game until after I beat the game even though I kept doing it on accident during my playthrough.

(game for 1994)

Played SNES version. Sound effects sound bit scuffed, but otherwise ran fine. Beat'em up with Arthurian characters. Controls well enough, adds parry button which grants you short invincibility when you block attack. Difficulty and bosses feel fair unlike certain other game from same developer.

Also dares to ask the question who would win in a fight; knight or samurai? (Answer is knight, apparently.)

Beat on normal as Arthur. I did well early on by simply spamming attack though later I did more blocking. Regular enemies were not much challenge but some of the bosses were very difficult. One of the better beat em ups I have played.
