Played for the first time in a while. I always forget how much I like it. It's a great game with a good range of power-ups and collectibles without being overstuffed. It's marred by two pretty rough boss fights at the end (the Bass+Treble fight, and final Wily), but they're not insurmountable. Just weird difficulty spikes. My daughter watched me play this for a while, and watched me die to Wily like 7 times. "Are you going to always lose, daddy?" she asked me. "I don't know, I hope I can beat him this time." She gave me a kiss on the cheek and I beat Dr. Wily with no E-tanks and a tiny sliver of health left. Made a great memory.

After a few more attempts, I finally caved and made a save state. Then I proceeded to beat it on that attempt! Save state not needed; game beat fully ethically.

When I started this game, I didn't know it had the hardest freaking boss ever. I finally caved and watched a video for the final Dr Wily boss. Now I can dodge the projectiles sometimes, but I feel like the fire and ice effects last longer for me than they did in the video--it's impossible to recover in time …

Dunno if I'm good enough at Mega Man to beat this guy :P Might have to use save states.

+Game is really pretty. It's colorful and I like the art style.

+Multiple paths in the levels is neato.

+Brings back collectable Rush armor.

+Chargeable enemy weapons. I'm pretty sure the prior 6 games did not have this feature.

+Multiple paths in the levels is neato.

--Mega Man's model is pretty large. It adds extra detail to the sprite, but it made it harder for me to pull off pixel perfect jumps.

--This is off of my admittedly bad memory, but I feel like there was less innovation in this game than in the prior 6 games in the classic series.

--Suffers from frame drops pretty frequently.

+-I remember starting from either 4 or 5, the games started getting easier, but this one goes back to being really hard.

Is it a bad game? I don't think so, but being the first classic style Mega Man game on a console more powerful than the NES makes it more disappointing because it didn't do much to add to the formula. It doesn't help that it came out after Mega Man X and X2 on the same console.

Beat the game. I never knew about the in game store and barely used items anyway (save state abuse > item use). I never bothered to go back to previous levels to find secrets, so I missed a fair bit. Beat the game. I never knew about the in game store and barely used items anyway (save state abuse > item use). I never bothered to go back to previous levels to find secrets, so I missed a fair bit. Worst part of the game was the final form of the final boss with those damn homing projectiles. Of the boss weapons, I liked the junk shield and noise crush the most.
