Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is the first game of the Resident Evil series to switch from 3rd-person to fully 1st-person perspective. A complete refresh of gameplay systems simultaneously propels the survival horror experience to another level. It is as much horror as it is survival, boosting up scare elements and minimizing downright shooting action. The game allows use of Sony's PSVR Headset to play in VR mode.

Started playing this on Friday. I was a little apprehensive about going in because I did like the possible direction that RE6 was taking things and from what I had seen of previews had given me the impression that this would be more Silent Hill than RE, but now that I've played a bit I'm happy to see that my fears were wrong.

I got to the room with the shotgun in the statue bust and the setup eerily reminded me of the shotgun room for the first RE1. When that realization hit me I panicked all I DON'T LIKE THIS I DON'T LIKE THIS and when I picked up the shotgun, I heard the door lock and started freaking out and my boy was just sitting there laughing at me (he had watched several streams of this game and knew that nothing would happen).

Someone beat Resident Evil 7 on the hardest mode with only a knife (SPOILER: the following video is the entire game):

Un bel Resident Evil che, come è già accaduto ormai diverse volte alla serie, conserva svariati punti cardine per dare una nuova lettura, magari più interessante (o comunque più riuscita) rispetto ad alcune di quelle altre volte. Non fila tutto alla perfezione, ma funziona ed è divertente. Bene, bravi, bis.

It had a good mix of really creepy and not too creepy. It shook things up every time I started to get comfortable. It had a good mix of really creepy and not too creepy. It shook things up every time I started to get comfortable. Little details stand out whenever I revisit a scene, and I LOVE how well the demo tied into the game. The detail altogether was wonderful. I hope more story releases in future DLCs, not including the first DLC which seems to be just mini games. I also hope that more games take after RE7 and PT and give us more demos/playable teasers. If you wanna know how to do a good action horror game, this is it.

This is an amazing game. While it doesn't play like other Resident Evil titles, it fits in the series very well. This is an amazing game. While it doesn't play like other Resident Evil titles, it fits in the series very well. Instead of being a third person shooter with plenty of action, it is more about puzzle solving, mystery, suspense, and horror. A good example would be the cancelled Silent Hills. This game is completely unlike any other recent Resident Evil titles, but it is excellent at what it does. Exploration rewards you, the puzzles are fun and interesting, the bit of shooting there is works well, and the atmosphere is perfect. The story is great, with the constant question of "what's going on with everyone?" and "where is Mia?" being at the forefront of your mind.

The only gripe I had was that I finished this in 8.5 hours. However, the game was made as such that it felt more like 15. Great pacing and general gameplay can do that. I rented this at a Redbox and am considering buying it now just to support Capcom for making it. If you like scary mystery games, look no further. But if you are dead set on wanting something more action-oriented like Resident Evil 4 or 5, you will most likely be disappointed.

I found a good price on Resident Evil 7 so I decided to treat myself to a copy of it. I'm kind of new to the Resident Evil series. I played RE4 first which got me hooked, then I've played the 2 recent HD remasters. I've really enjoyed all of them. So far I'm really impressed with RE7, it's absolutely terrifying. And the level of realism is shocking. It's very cool to see these gross slimy environments depicted with such a degree of detail.

Thus far RE7 is great, I feel like it's trying to borrow elements from all the recent horror game success stories and combine them together, while trying to stay somewhat faithful to the originals. The first person perspective, exploration and detailed environments feels like PT. I can also sense some elements of Outlast and Amnesia in there. Interesting how they've woven some parts in from the early RE games like the herbs, inventory, save system. It feels a bit hand-holdy at the moment but admittedly I'm only about an hour in. As long as there aren't any QTEs then I think this game is set to be a winner.

The most surprising element, for me, is how spooky this game is. I've been literally terrified while playing which isn't a regular thing for me. I think the last time I was this spooked was when I played Alien Isolation about a year ago. And it's not the jumpscare kind of spooky; the chills are created cleverly through atmosphere, sound and suggestion. The fact that the game looks so photo-realistic makes it very immersive, which makes it all the more spine-chilling.

2-3 hours in... let's do this.

Where do you think this lands on the spectrum between "Classic" RE and RE6? Personally, I think this carries the spirit of the old RE games extremely well, and as a long-time fan and someone who has wanted some of the stress of the old games to return, I am pleased. So far...

Just played the demo version with two friends and I am really amazed! If the full game will be that good this might become one of the most important games in 2017.
