Resident Evil Village is a first-person survival horror game and the sequel to Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. The game maintains elements from previous Resident Evil games, with players having to scavenge environments for items and manage their resources. However, it adds more action-oriented gameplay, with higher enemy counts and a greater emphasis on combat.

Am I missing something? Why did this end up the most popular game of the day here on Grouvee? Is there a sale somewhere I'm missing?

Just killed the first out of four(?) final bosses. This game is fun! It's not what I expected but that is something I did expect. RE7 was better by a long shot but Village is still good. I do wish it was a little more scary though.

This Mercenaries mode really sucks. In the other games, i.e. RE-4-6, you were constantly on the move. Enemies were always chasing after you in these wide arenas that just work well. You were given no objective other than to rack up as many points as possible under a time limit. In here, you're supposed to kill a certain amount of enemies to proceed into the next arena. You're incentivized to kill every enemy for the large score bonus, but since the enemy count is finite, the flow of combat instantly breaks. That perfect combo is no more. Since certain enemies don't move, you have to backtrack and search through parts of the campaign that are not meant for arena combat and work horribly in this mode. Only interewting thing about this mode are the power ups for as arbitrary as they are. They made you pick and choose for some basic ass synergy.

It's a sad day today. I didn't get the speedrun achievement(beat the game in under 3 hours), but I did beat the game within half the time of my first playthrough.

Near the end of metal guy's place...uhg. Swamp land was like a bad joke. I've never played a more mindless section in a resident evil. Metal guy's place at least has some interesting imagery and he really chews the scenery but man this game just continues to disappoint. Hopefully the end picks it up a little because so far we're …

Metal guy's place at least has some interesting imagery and he really chews the scenery but man this game just continues to disappoint. Hopefully the end picks it up a little because so far we're sitting pretty at like maybe a 3/5? Maybe it'll be more fun on replay but I kinda doubt it since literally half the game has basically no meaningful gameplay or reasonable way to skip said non gameplay.

Okay halfway through village. The intro is really bad in terms of easing a player into the mechanics and showing the level of difficulty. Okay halfway through village. The intro is really bad in terms of easing a player into the mechanics and showing the level of difficulty. It took me an hour to get past that one part and nothing has been noteworthy in terms of difficulty. Really baffling. Vampire lady lair is fun but way too simple. It plays like baby's first resident evil map. I was basically sleepwalking through it but even lazy resi is good stuff so it was a good dream. Doll baby house is possibly the worst thing to have happened to the franchise. Everything that sets resi apart from its dull contemporaries is lost here. It's Everything I feared 7 would sell out and become. I don't know how this made it into this series. The only thing that rivals it in slow boring stupidity is the intro to Leon's campaign in resi 6 were you're forced to walk and talk with npcs the whole time. At least in that game there was dull banter to distract you. (6 is a great game btw)

Stuff I like. Any time the Duke shows up. He is great fun and the most engaging character so far. Also loved a little trick where a puzzle had me looking out a window and I expected a jump scare but then noticed numbers for a puzzle. I started counting them and then BAM!!! It waited just long enough to actspook me when the Wolfman showed up.

Other than that. I have fun while playing it but whenever I step away I'm feeling pretty disappointed. I haven't been this meh on a resi game since revelations 2. It's probably sitting near my bottom 3 atm

Resident Evil Village keeps giving us clicks so I'll keep writing about it.

This time, I list all the 'easter eggs', references and links to the whole RE series.

Absolutely loved it. In my top 3 Resi games, alongside 2 and 4. Its just the right blend of action, scares, thrills, and silliness. All wrapped up in a supremely polished and gorgeous package.

Beating both Village and RE4 (for the third time) back to back made me think a lot more about these games than I was expecting. Especially since I was replaying RE4 leisurely on the Switch. Of course I prefer RE4, but Village is a beast of its own, even if it fumbles hard in gameplay aspects.

Beat the third zone.

Beat the third zone.

I'm enjoying my time with REVillage, but I feel like things should be fleshed out more. Out of the Resident Evil games that I have played, I've played RE4, RE2 Remake, part of RE7, and now this and I'd say that Village is mechanically weaker than those games aside from maybe 7. Maybe it's the large size of the case where I didn't feel as overwhelmed as I was in 4 and 2R. And how much less space things take up in Village compared to RE4. Maybe it's the stacking where meat, ammo, and mines can be stacked upon each other, leaving less decision making. Stacking was fine in RE4 because ammo was the only thing that was stacked. Maybe it's that herbs, chemfluids, ammo, and keys are in different inventory systems, leaving more space in your case. I could forgive RE4 with how key items, treasure items, and your case were in separate inventory systems because of how it focused more on being an action game whereas Village tries to be both but doesn't really know which hand it wants to chew on when it comes to mechanical aspects of the game. So far, I have never run out of space. Maybe it's the lack of a limb damage system to stun enemies like in RE4 and 2R, leaving only staggers that are based on luck while also being visually less impressive than RE2R.

Village is a really fun game with its varied fun house horror segments (the second zone being excellently done horror for as different gameplay wise as it is compared to the series) and solid gunplay, but I kinda feel underwhelmed with the mechanics of this game which is why RE4 is one of my top 5 favorite games and I was expecting RE4 2 in a spiritual manner, which does in spades, but not enough to really wow me so far.

I beat Resident Evil Village and loved it. I really am a sucker for the series and Ethan Winters deserved his time in the spotlight. Still not sure how I rank it against 7... they feel like two distinct flavors of Resident Evil's approach to first-person horror.

My next goal is to plat the game on PS5. It's not an unreasonable task but will take multiple playthroughs and require significant focus. There's a chance I give up if get bored and want to play something new.
