Resident Evil 2 is a remake of 1998's Resident Evil 2. The game was not developed with the intent of improving the original, but rather a reimagining of the original story with redesigned maps, characters and story elements. Gameplay mechanics are more similar to Resident Evil 7: Biohazard though with the use of an over-the-shoulder camera.

I would say Resident Evil 2 Remake is the closest thing we’ve gotten to the classic RE style in recent years. It’s got true inventory management, limited saves (on hard), a constant sense of fear and vulnerability, lots of backtracking, puzzles - just about everything besides fixed camera angles.

That being said, the setting of 2 was never my favorite. I know a ton of people regard RE 2 as the greatest in the series, but I just find the police station, sewer, and lab to be a bit… drab. I much prefer the Victorian mansion of RE 1 or the city and clock tower of 3. Even the village and castle of 4 is more interesting to me. But, it is still captured very well here with a dark horrific atmosphere.

I guess I forgot to write a review years ago, but now that I played on hardcore, it’s definitely one of my favorites of the entire series. The Tyrant and the lickers are just so terrifying, and the game takes lots of strategy. Not my all time favorite, but absolutely top 5.

Solid and Flawless Design, and a Lot of Fun to Play!

I very much enjoyed just about every aspect of this. The puzzles were really satisfying, the challenge was good too with just about giving me small skill tests without getting to grating (the exception was the final boss as I was just clueless what to do there)

It's also a really nice looking game. Models are very detailed. I played …

The GOAT of the RE series

And for half the game he's being chased around by the invincible Mr X, a truly terrifying presence in the game. Getting stalked by him is an unnerving and unforgettable experience that keeps you on your toes and prevents you from ever getting too comfortable. The shooting in the game feels so good, so smooth and so realistic. Lightyears ahead of RE4, 5 and 6. And resource management MATTERS, unlike those previously mentioned entries. It's the perfect Resident Evil game, it's what RE was always meant to be - genuinely scary and exhilarating. Full playthrough below:

RE2 masterfully reincarnated

Resident Evil 2 remake is a really cool example of how to modernise an oldie. Even though the game looks, sounds and plays like a modern game, it still keeps the heart and feel of the original intact. I wouldn't name RE as one of my all time favourite series but I had quite a bit of fun with this one. The game looks absolutely stunning, plays well and has a good balance of gamey silliness and actual serious drama and horror. While the story wasn't amazing and had some clunky twists, it did manage to have several memorable moments. Also, the game does a good job of making the protagonist duo feel down-to-earth and likeable.

I wasn't super sold on playing two separate campaigns that are super similar to each (and have conflicting events/timelines). I wasn't always vibing with the extensive backtracking and frequent, long, unskippable animations of zombies grabbing your character either. Still, there's no denying that RE2 Remake is a proper class act.

My 1st RE game is 2

So I played and finished my first Resident Evil game! There were more puzzles and key finding than I thought there would be.

  • The game looked great. Characters and enviroments were nice.
  • Blasting zombies is fun.
  • Accessibility. The game was tough (for me), so having the option for an assisted mode was nice.
  • The controls were good and it was quick to get used to.
  • Good length. It wasn’t very long, but it didn’t need to be. Doing two playthroughs (one for each character) wasn’t a chore.

Here’s what I didn’t like so much:

  • The story was a little too generic and predictable for my liking. Some cringy dialogue. But I kinda expected that so it’s not a big knock on the game.
  • The environments were all a little samey, but again to be expected I guess.

Overall I enjoyed my time with the game. I’d probably give it a good 7/10. I have RE3 in my backlog too, but I probably won’t get around to playing it for a long while.
I’m pretty new to games in general so I’m trying out random games that catch eye as well as famous franchises. Resident Evil was one of those famous franchises I had to give a go. Glad I did!

This game is an extremely weird experience for me. Last year I played Resident Evil 4 (2005) for the first time in my life and not only agreed with everything that has ever said about it, but genuinely thought it was one of the best games I've played. Truly still a masterpiece.

It made me realise maybe I really could love Resident Evil, and made me want to go back to all the modern remakes I let pass me by.

Hence, Resident Evil 2 (remake).

This game is incredible. It's stunning, with so much attention to detail on every single part of it. It's acted great, the cutscenes are dynamic and cool and the depiction of Leon is a lot of fun.

The combat is sharp, the resource management is good and the areas are pretty elaborately designed. And yet... it never wowed me. So often I felt like the game would tip over the edge and would just feel like busywork. So much tension, so much patience would just be lost when I would groan going "Wow, I need to go do that?". Running donuts around the police station certainly makes it a lot less interesting, especially when it means you just don't even want to fight anyone anymore.

I mostly hated every since boss fight in the game, and every area after the police station seems to be a bit worse than the area before it. In all respects of this game do I think it's really well-made, but when I was done playing it it was a near-instant uninstall, because I just didn't have that much fun clicking the buttons. It was a fun experience overall, and a really good time streaming it, but I didn't have the desire to jump back in for another campaign with Claire, even if it was only going to be another 6 hours.

I simply just enjoyed the shooting and controls so much more in the original Resident Evil 4, and although this is a really good remake of Resident Evil 2 I'm sure, it's still just a remake of a very old game.

Beat the Leon A campaign last night and can’t wait to start up the Claire B campaign once I’m back from a short work trip. Am I having “fun” with these RE games thus far? I’m not quite sure. I’m playing them mostly in a state of anxiety and dread, worried that each shot I take is a bullet I won’t be able to replace or a zombie will burst through whatever door I’m facing. But that fearful state releases its own kind of endorphins and I’m currently addicted to them. I kept rushing home from work the past couple weeks to get past the next stage and would stay up way too late thinking to myself “just one more puzzle and I’ll go to bed.”

While RE1 is a masterclass in horror video game imagery and tone, this one takes what works and improves upon everything else. Comparing this remake of RE2 with the remaster of RE1, it’s impressive how the increased focus on action sacrifices so little horror. The Mr. X idea is a big help here, a genius addition that amps up the tension at just the point you feel the game starting to sag. The fuller story and unique A/B stories are also great evolutions of what the original offered.

It helps the game plays like a dream, although a dodge mechanic would have been appreciated during the final boss fights. The level layout and narrative structure are also exemplary. Puzzles are thoughtful and items are doled out at the perfect pace to keep item management at the forefront without leaving a careful gamer stranded. And the whole thing is long enough to justify itself without encountering the bloat we see in so many modern titles.

I don’t have any major complaints, although an A campaign alone does feel a bit slight. Hopefully completing a B campaign expands the game’s scope enough to launch the game up to the upper echelon of my Best of All Time list. Currently, it stands as maybe my favorite modern horror game and one of the most addictive gaming experiences I’ve had this year.

More than a REmaster

This is a pacier, more dynamic Resident Evil 2. The snappier nature helps me overlook the back tracking and mediocre puzzling that was present in the 1998 original. The boss battles are still terrible due to the limited fov, lack of a real dodge and the tight/narrow environments, but the Resident Evil 4 style combat and mobile camera are still a big improvement.

The RE2MAKE is more of an action game than a true horror, despite some effective jump scares. The visuals are obviously a massive improvement and the darkly lit environments create some of the tension that is missing due to the removal of fixed camera angles. The flickering lights and damp, narrow, blood spattered corridors give the game a creepy enough atmosphere, at least initially.

The characters are still as bland as communion wafers and the dialogue is pretty terrible, especially with the often stilted delivery, e.g.

"It's good to see your face" & "We can get a puppy!" "A puppy".

Both campaigns are basically the same, with each story appearing to exist in its own universe. It would have been nice if they'd spent more time on making each character's campaign different, with more interactions between Claire and Leon.

The game does get survival right, as resources are limited but well placed. The harder to put down zombies and relentless Mr X, mean strategy is more important this time around, which adds variety to each play-through.

It performs well on my potato too.

Mr X scared the everloving shit out of me, Leon and Claire are both amazing characters with super fun storylines (although I did prefer Claire's) and it's so cool to see them cross over! each area has its own enemies and things that make them feel super different and it's all horrifying in the best way. the puzzles are challenging but not so hard that my smooth brain couldn't figure them out and also!! it just looks so damn good !!

if you haven't already, go play this damn game it's so great !

I'm not a fan of the Resident Evil series at all. I have played some games before, but never the original trilogy. So I had no hope for remakes. For me, it's totally new games, but now I'm considering actually trying the classics.

RE2R as well as RE3R need to be played with an FPS mod. Its experience is superior to any other option. In this way, the game eventually becomes somewhat of a survival horror. The story is not as abysmal as I thought it would be, at least to some point, considering it is Resident Evil, after all.

Visually, the game looks good, with good detailed locations and overall art, especially in first person. At some point, the gameplay loop became quite monotonous, with very few new challenges. Mr. X did not impress at all in any aspect. The last segment of the game is absolute dogshit and makes no sense to me.

Overall, the game feels highly undeveloped; it needs more deep-layered locations like RPD that would be connected to travel back and forth. I thought the game would be like a playground for developers to test new ideas for future remakes, but I guess it's not going to happen (I already played RE3R, and it seems that future remakes will be done in the same way).

At the end, I wished these remakes would be new reimagined ZombieU.

I got it eventually, but that was after I played Dino Crisis. I had this remake in my backlog for a while and finally decided to give it a go and I'm so ashamed for not playing it sooner... The game was fantastic in everyway. The graphics is nuts! When I first saw the burger and I was blown away!! The sound design is creepy and scary especially for a zombie game. Mr. X kept my anxiety on 10 and his big footsteps. I was scared because usually when you get closer to the end of the game with Resident Evil the game usually gets a little boring or not that interesting, but this game kept interest up the whole time.

A must play game

Many good ideas and general improvements plus possibly the best (third person) gameplay of the entire series with the perfect combination of action and survival horror, BUT many step-backs as well (even from the original itself) that don't let this remake outshine completely the original (unlike RE1 Remake)

I could go on and on since I love this game so much, which to be honest I was not expecting since I am cautious when it comes to Resident Evil due to it being one of my top 3 favorite series of all time. They nailed it and really proved that game remakes could really shake up the gaming industry while adding a "new" entry into this amazing franchise. OK now remake 3, please. enter image description here
