Resident Evil 2 is a remake of 1998's Resident Evil 2. The game was not developed with the intent of improving the original, but rather a reimagining of the original story with redesigned maps, characters and story elements. Gameplay mechanics are more similar to Resident Evil 7: Biohazard though with the use of an over-the-shoulder camera.

replaying this one (all on my own now, with no one to throw the controller to) and i had to take a moment to desintetize myself from mr. x (by baiting him and making him go around in circles in the main hall) cause i kept yelping every time his steps got a little louder. he is a silly little …

Last time I played this, I had no survival horror experience. I only played the Leon campaign and I was bad. Now that I have played most mainline RE games, I replayed both and most definitely improved. I really like this game. I still prefer the 1998 version, but I'm glad that there are 2 great versions of the RE2. Just as I am with RE 1 and 4. Some points that kind of bum me in the remake.

  • No still frames or even cinematic flair when shooting the rocket launcher at the Super Tyrant was lame.
  • The way Chief Irons dies was no where near as cool as both scenarios in the original game. Man's body gets split in that game and I wish he had an even worse fate with how much of a prick he is right off the bat.
  • Claire just finds Sherry infected and that's our introduction to this plot point in the remake. I remember having my jaw on the floor when William showed up in front of Sherry in Claire A OG. Like "Oh shit! What is he going to do to her?"
  • They didn't top the custom shotgun from the orignal game. The coolest shotgun in the series and one of the coolest shotguns ever put in a video game.
  • No walkie talkies for Leon and Claire? I liked the trait of everyone, even Claire not listening to the rookie cop, Leon S. Kennedy and him getting bummed about it. Would have generally liked mpre interactions with the protaginists in this remake.
  • William Birkin's death was cooler in the OG game. The protagonists and Sherry working together to stop the train. One climbs under, the other helps Sherry to pull the brakes.
  • One of my favorite lines in the original game was in Leon A where after Ada "dies", he looks at the sample of the G-virus and says "So, this is what everyone's been dying for." and throws it. In the remake, the G-vurus falls he doesn't say a line as poetic and tragic.

Been getting back into gaming after 12 or so years. Got a semi-capable computer to play games on. Dude, this last week has been a total blast! Discovering all these sequels to old games I loved. Man, I'd forgotten how fun this was.

Fun game. completed second run with Claire and the survivor stories tonight on 'training mode.' (Those were pretty fun challenges and i really liked the random loot mechanics and decision making bits via vending machines and picking what enemies to simply juke around. I wish the second playthrough actually had more things that were different though to warrant sinking in another 10-12 hours. Switching up the chess puzzle and 'herbicide' puzzle was NOT the way though!) I ain't got time for that 4th survivor/tofu nonsense... Can barely get halfway through it.. A fun game but i'm not the type to play something like this over and over again or speedrun. I was planning to play RE series in order but my buddy vouches I head straight to Village. Might do that. (or Silent Hill 2 )

Why are the zombies bullet sponges to such an annoying degree? I understand the point is to conserve ammo, but it's not easy walking through tight corridors when there's five zombies and they could either take 2 bullets to put down or 3 extended mags.

The first resident evil game I've played since RE1 on the original PS1. I liked exploring the detailed police station and I wish there was more of that and less time spent avoiding Mr. X.

They do an excellent job creating an unsettling atmosphere. Maybe too good... it left me with an a slight feeling of anxiety inside that made me question myself "Am I actually enjoying this?" It probably didn't help that I was playing in the dark with headphones. As I get older I find myself enjoying the horror genre less and less. Maybe it has something to do with getting closer to my own mortality and those close to me.

Claire A on Hardcore. Trying to go a bit more minimalist with these runs which is not without its own challenges. While I wasn't specifically going for speed, it does still kind of hurt missing the S rank by 3:15, lol. While I wasn't specifically going for speed, it does still kind of hurt missing the S rank by 3:15, lol. Probably could've gotten away with a lot fewer saves as I only died twice, to William 2 and 3, once each, but especially when marathoning these over a weekend, best to avoid having to repeat large portions of the game over silly mistakes.

Guess it's also time to hop back to this and do my Leon playthrough. He's just such a lame character though lmao

I am finished with Claire's campaign and now must - sadly - play Leon's. All in all though, that was thoroughly entertaining. The first truly enjoyable RE title I've ever played.

I cannot believe I am genuinely enjoying a Resident Evil game, but I suppose sometimes miracles do happen. THAT BEING SAID, if I'd played the original 2 instead of this version, there's high likelihood that I'd have hated that one, so.
