I thought this game was difficult, only because I was a child at the time, but honestly?
It gave me a hard time, more than I imagined, maybe megaman X 1 wasn't that hard, maybe not even the 2nd, but the 3rd wasn't a piece of cake at all.
the 4th honestly, didn't give me the desire to replay it that change in graphics, it didn't appeal to me at all.
I was really glad I replayed it, it really deserves this saga :'3
1-Star reviews, for me, are reserved for one thing only: non-functional games. Even the worst games for me will get a 2, provided they are functional. Mega Man X is my favorite series of games, and I know how they feel. I've been playing the original Mega Man X with regularity since it was released. So when I loaded up the Mega Man X Collection and tried to play Mega Man X I immediately felt that something was off. I looked it up and I wasn't the only one. There is a very serious amount of input lag that renders the game technically playable, but not fun to play. And, for someone like me who knows the game intimately, it's unplayable.
There are also report of other saying that nothing was wrong. Frankly, if you think nothing is wrong, you probably don't know these games very well and were going to die to the spike pit on Rangda Bangda anyway.
Unfortunately, because this hasn't been fixed within the 3 years it's been out, we're unlikely to see it ever fixed. Buyer beware. This is a broken collection of amazing games.
As a port job it gets a 3/5... My individual rankings for the games can be viewed by looking them up. The rather noticeable input lag (especially on the SNES titles), the lack of savestates or rewind, weird aspect ration pixel crunching requirements and the lack of any real unlockables really make this just a so-so port job. X-Challenge is a cluster-screw of a mess that requires a lot more luck than skill and offers little in the way of an interesting challenge. The art gallery is cool enough and some of the medals were fun (while others felt arbitrary and grindy)
The one advantage this collection has is being on the switch which allows you to play these high quality platformers on the go. Otherwise I suggest standard emulation or the x collection for the GC and PS2 over this. If you can't easily get either of those or like me want to play the X series on the go, I can confirm it is worth the buy.
The performance is so poor on this collection that there is literally no reason to buy this instead of using ROMs.
Just grabbed this on PS5 and...WOW this is nearly unplayable to me. I've been playing MMX since it came out. It's one of my favorite games and I've played it more times that I could possibly count. So I immediately noticed something was off when I started playing MMX1. There's a pretty substantial lag when playing that makes the precision moves I'm used to nearly impossible.
I looked it up and I'm not the only one. Plenty of others feel it, too. What a bummer. I hope you can refund PSN games like you can Steam games, because it's a total dud for me.
So I would say the little extras put this right about even with emulation..the lack of save states are realllly lame but I enjoy the pictures and info. It's affordability makes it nice as well. Gonna go through the x challenge and get the last 4 x medals before I give it a full review but so far I can say....better than it could be but not as good as I would have liked. The games themselves are as good as ever but aside from the switch's portability I can't help but feel like just normal emulation would have made for a better gaming experience.
Playing Mega Man X
It's X, I like X, it feels weird to play it on an Xbox controller... This is why I need a N. Switch I suppose. The things the game add such as screen filters, and wallpaper backgrounds aren't really that big of a deal.
Would have really like options to alter the game in other ways. Even mapping out the controllers would have been interesting. Also some save state might have been cool. Overall it just keeps the original experience of the games "pure," which I understand is what they were going for.
PS: I like how fast we can jump from game to game.
No rewind or savestates is hmmnnnnnnnnn. No unlockables is sad.... lack of extra features is also HMMMMMMMM
rookie mode seems like a waste of time to me.... The choice to omit the fmv's in 3 is also sad
clarity and control seem good...so far it seems like decent emulation but little else.
