The player moves randomly placed cookies into rows and columns of cookies with similar patterns. When a row or column of the same cookies is successfully assembled, the line will disappear, and the player can begin to work on a new row or column. The main objective of each level is to clear the playing field of all the cookies. Read less

Started on puzzle mode and did a few puzzles. Then I beat the entire action mode on low speed. Sometimes I could clear the starting cookies before any new ones appeared, sometimes (especially in later rounds) I let so many cookies pile up that the game speed became unmanageable, and most times I kept the cookies down to just a few waiting for the right ones to show up so everything could match. I was unable to play round 11 because the code requires a 2nd controller. There is probably a way to get it working on emulator but I don't care enough to check. Action mode was reasonably entertaining but dragged on too long and was quite repetitive. I then tried vs, playing as Yoshi because of higher defense. Beat Mario 3 times. That was it? No campaign to defeat everyone or tournament or anything? Then played as Bowser vs Princess. Vs mode was decent but could have been much better. Then I went back to puzzle mode. By round 4 I started having to consult a walkthrough for some. 4-6 in particular gave me a hard time because the walkthrough did not specify the moves. I eventually solved it, but it was very annoying. By round 9 I gave up entirely and used the walkthrough to bring the number of moves down to 2 or 3 and tried to finish it on my own. Puzzle mode was the least enjoyable mode.

Not a bad game. I'm not much into puzzle games and thus not the best qualified to judge its quality. Probably a 7 out of 10.

Yoshi's Cookie is an action puzzle game that stands out in that it's more of a Rubix Cube type of setup, rather than a "falling blocks" deal (Tetris, Puyo Puyo, Columns, Dr Mario, etc). Long story short: The single-player modes failed to interest me at all. The multiplayer mode is... okay. It's just not a game that engages me at all. Move rows/columns of cookies to make them match, rinse and repeat. You can try to set up combos (a bit like Bejeweled), but it doesn't feel as satisfying as in other puzzle games. It's all pretty dull tbh. The multiplayer mode at least keeps the action constant (no waiting for the right cookies to appear at the end), and lets you do special attacks on your opponent to shake things up. My friends got a kick out of the ability titled "SLAVE." Now you can play as Bowser, and make Mario his slave -- good times.
