Just like last time, the colors and sprites and backgrounds and, well, overall look are the best part of the game. Since the game only has basic cosmetic changes, I'm mostly gonna focus on the 2nd and 3rd screen that I had never attempted.
Annnnd the final screen, kinda meh compared to the first 2's backgrounds and color schemes:
Oh wait! That wasn't the final screen? I definitely preferred the color scheme and look of this truly final screen, even if it's the typical damsel in distress nonsense it kinda comes with the era.
Sound: 8/10 Love the percussive song in the final final screen. Otherwise, I barely noticed it. Functional and always glad to hear actual background music in an early game.
Edit: wow on the arcade machine I loved all the jingles! Exciting fun adventurous!
Play: 7/10 Just like the (only slightly different) Jungle King version, I just cannot get into that first screen. Sitting there waiting for the right timing is only fun for like 20 seconds, then it's so stale. They should have made the first screen shorter, because I got bored with Jungle King before even passing it. But I decided to be …

Just like the (only slightly different) Jungle King version, I just cannot get into that first screen. Sitting there waiting for the right timing is only fun for like 20 seconds, then it's so stale. They should have made the first screen shorter, because I got bored with Jungle King before even passing it. But I decided to be earnest this time and push through it to see if the 2nd and 3rd screen are more interesting. (Now that I actually pushed through, ironically, it turns out I had only 1 or 2 vines left before the next screen; I guess the first screen is pretty short--I just don't care for its gameplay tbh. It should have been maybe brief interludes between other screens or something). For the 2nd screen, it took me a second to realize I need to go to the surface to breathe, luckily the controls are very tight and responsive so I quickly got up there before losing my first life (so far so good!). I definitely prefer the 2nd screen over the 1st, even if it isn't as innovative (it's basically side scrolling arcade action gameplay) I liked the tight controls, the alligator enemies, and the attack function. Plus, the collision masks were relatively forgiving/fun to learn. The final screen was a bit meh, reminded me of Pitfall. The jump mechanic is really fun, but the collision masks with the rocks were kinda trash. Oh, turns out there's one more very short screen. I wish you could fight the captors. Oddly, the jump mechanic and responsiveness of controls seemed less well-done in the final screen. There is a bit of a delay between jumps, unlike in the earlier screens. But anyway, after that silly clunky not-very-fun final screen, it was nice to finally see the ending screen as tacky as it is (and dang is the guy creepy-looking in this one, I wish I had seen the original Jungle King ending but don't like the gameplay enough to replay it)
Feel: 7/10 Never a big fan of Indigenous people being depicted this way, tho let's be honest, I'd probly mess with these 2 settler goons if they were tainting my ancestral land heh. Other than that--the look, the gameplay of the 2nd screen, its renown for influencing later games, its innovative gameplay features, and its being a Taito game all combine into a pretty nice feel. Plus, the story of its creation as Jungle King, then changes due to petty copyright stuff, is interesting and memorable.
Attachment: 7/10 I doubt I will be replaying it, but it's a game I will remember and will probly be the version I replay in the future. Not that it actually has any better features than the original Jungle King, but it's the one I pushed through and got used to--so it's the version I would return to if my brothers say they're interested. (Speaking of, last night, I Favorited all my 5- and 4-star arcade games on MAME and filtered the list as such. Then, I had MAME open on my laptop at the family+friends get-together and I was surprised how many of them tried out all the classic arcade games and had fun! That's what I love. So indeed, Jungle Hunt could have made it on the list, not that it's a favorite of mine, but I could see it being a fun pick-up-and-play-for-a-bit game at a get-together) All that being said, I had no drive to replay the screens at the higher difficulty/re-cycled time, so it's certainly not an 8 or 9.
Completion: All 4 Screens Playtime: ~30 mins

Great colors, excellent character sprite, interesting to see sorta-parallax background on the ground. Very impressed with the look, not much else tho :-x

Sound: 7/10 Cool to hear a videogame song again, tho kinda a forgettable song, but I gave a little boost cuz I always am happy to hear actual background music in games now.
Play: 6/10 The gameplay was kinda fun for a few, getting the timing down, but for the most part very bland.
Feel: 6/10 Let's be honest, the cover image is the best part of the game :-p . I might have overhyped this game due to the graphics and the mentions I had read. Certainly not a bad game, but just not exciting enough to push through and play the game much. Cool concept, well-done, just not that fun tho.
Attachment: 6/10 As decent as the game was, and worth a try if you have any interest from the screenshots, I doubt I will be returning to it. I have a lot of respect for the game, had fun getting the timing down, and definitely don't regret playing it since I haven't seen a game like this yet in the project. But …

This is a short and not too difficult multi-stage game recipe similar in the vein of so many games in this era such as Dragonfire (Atari 2600) or Raid Over Moscow (Commodore 64) It has the aesthetic of Pitfall, including avoiding crocodiles and jumping/swinging from vine to vine, but focuses on short burst of action rather than the long pathing and adventurish aspects of that game. It also features 'loops' after a successful completion, of which I found the second one to be significantly harder (the vines swing way faster) and did not stick with it.
Still a pretty decent title and fun game for 15 minutes. I'd not actually heard of this one, but had saw somewhere people were recommending this one and agree, its pretty good showcase for the 2600, is approachable, winnable and easy to get into.
(This review for Atari 2600) Did not try the other platforms or research them.
One of the first video games I ever remember playing as a kid. It was nice to go back to this one and finish it.
