If you want an unfair challenge this is where you go

Platform:

Turbografx-16 version.

Graphics/Sound:

It looks great, and is basically in line with all the great Turbografx-16 shmups. It's a classic space theme, so nothing special to report here.

Turbografx-16 version.

Graphics/Sound:

It looks great, and is basically in line with all the great Turbografx-16 shmups. It's a classic space theme, so nothing special to report here.

Gameplay:

The game is unique in several ways. It's a vertical shmup, but adds the element of having to fly through small maze like areas usually only seen in horizontal shmups. But what makes it mainly stand apart from the crowd is the powerup system where you can add an amount of side cannon attachments to your ship, which have two different types: 1 shooting straight up, 2 shooting in the reverse direction of your movement vector. It's pretty cool, and many of the levels are designed in a way you certainly benefit from this steering of your shots.

Difficulty:

The first set of levels are quite decent in difficulty. There is a few spots, I would call not very good game design for an auto scroller, where you can chose between two paths but one is a dead end, but you don't know by the time you choose the path. So it's essentially just a cheap death. But after a certain level the game tells you "now it's serious", and the level that follows is insanely hard. Everything has a lot of hitpoints and comes flying at you from every imaginable direction.

Conclusion:

I liked the unique ideas here, especially steering the shooting direction. The difficulty, however, I think is flawed, similar to Cyber Core, and made me not want to come back to this for a while.
