Titans have imprisoned Neptina, Neptune's daughter! They've shattered his magical Trident and scattered its pieces far and wide. Without his trident, Neptune is powerless. Proteus, a member of Neptune's Court, longs to free the lovely mermaid. He sets out to find the missing pieces of the Trident. He roams land and sea, changing from a dolphin to a seagull and back again in order to deceive the mermaid's captors. Deadly trials confront Proteus -- octopuses, tangled beds of kelp, screaming flocks of black birds, even erupting volcanoes! But he fights on valiantly!

I really wanted to build the trident once, and I love the concept of how you incrementally get access to more areas instead of just simple re-cycling. Like many Atari VCS/2600 games, the manual is critical. The graphics are forgettable, tho I love the Atari colors, and I didn't get to listen to much of the sound. The controls are clunky as heck and frustrating, but I was oddly addicted to it. It almost warranted 3 stars and a valid review, but after playing as the dolphin and the seagul twice and successfully collecting enough Starfish/Pink Clouds to turn back to the other, and seeing the cool Volcano screen, I had had enough of the game and its Frogger-esque gameplay. Still, I gotta give credit--I normally hate all Frogger-esque games, but this had more of a dodge-em-and-collect-em action game feel making it a more successful Frogger-esque game.
