I finally beat Banjo-Kazooie to 100% completion 2 days ago. This was always one that I wanted to get around to, but drop a few levels in. Whether it be sure to saves bring list or other games to pay. Recompiled was what got me to finally beat the game and I will say. It's pretty good. I will note …
I will note that I did play with note saving enabled (I'm a coward. Sue me). The work done on the PC port is incredible and I am very happy that I waited until one came out to play it.
Some points that haven't been repeated to death like the banter, charm, dynamic soundtrack, cohesiveness, etc.
- Maybe I have been to spoiled by how compact Yellow Taxi Goes Vroom is, but I was expecting that game's level of compactness and density. Banjo is dense, but not as dense. It's the reason why I think Treasure Trove Cove peaks and then dips at Clanker's Cavern. I am just not a fan of the swimming here and there is so much water to swim in.
- I do not like the Mumbo transformations. The bee one is the best one because I actually have an ability that I can use for exploration. The others are just keys. From what I hear, Tooie is especially worse, but you still backtrack for these transformations to get stuff in Grunty's Lair which is something I don't like. Especially in Bubblegoop Swamp. I don't think of Bubblegoop Swamp too fondly because of going back and forth for the transformation.
- Rusty Bucket Bay is not that bad. The outside part of the level is fun. The engine room is bad, but I got used to it.
- Mad Monster Mansion is my favorite level in the game.
