Recently got NSO expansion pack and beat two levels of this game. I'm not really into it so far. Can anyone tell me if I'll like it more as the game goes on?

So after a nice quick sesh getting all the way through Clanker's Cavern I can safely say they at least nailed this one on the N64 online service. As far as I can tell framerate stays consistent throughout, even in some places where the N64 dropped some, and I didn't run into any weird audio or save glitches like with Paper Mario. They are using the original N64 version and not the Rare Replay remaster, which means you do still lose any music notes you didn't collect if you leave the level. I'm of two minds onto which is better, as since I grew up with that version and know the routes I like the efficiency of clearing every level in one go, but I also can understand how to a new player having to recollect the notes you already collected because of a death or if you just can't find them that run can be frustrating. Either way really enjoying getting to play Banjo again, and with the convenience of not having to hookup my N64.

I know the Nintendo 64 app gets flack, but I've been having a blast with it and think the games are awesome. This addition to it reminds me of one of the biggest mistakes in Nintendo's history: letting Rare be acquired by Microsoft. Rare fits Nintendo like a glove and letting them get acquired was such a mistake. This game IS Nintendo in a nutshell: fun characters, colorful, challenging but accessible. It could have been up there with Mario, Zelda, Kirby, Metroid and other Nintendo franchises if Nintendo made the move they should have made and acquired Rare before Microsoft did. This is a classic and if there's one reason to get the Nintendo Switch online app, this is it.

I had a nice little Monday holiday in America. My son and I played a few hours of banjo kazooie because he saw the picture of the bear and thought it looked fun. Then he and my wife took off for a little trip, and I watched bloodsport while having a little cocktail. The real question is which came first in the timeline, the kumite or mortal kombat? Those movies are clearly part of the same canon.

Similar to my attempt to play through Psychonauts, Banjo-Kazooie is another classic 3D platformer that I wanted to love, but just couldn't. While Psychonauts was a case of choppy controls and frustrating level design, Banjo-Kazooie was a case of boring goals and bland level design.

Banjo-Kazooie would be a funny cartoon to watch, I think. The characters have goofy voices and memorable character designs. There's a silly Looney Tunes vibe to it all that I dig, especially when it comes to the villain Gruntilda (who reminded me much of the Looney Tunes witch character, who I looked up and her name is Hazel apparently). Lots of great sound effects, and some charming tunes (though they do get old after a while).

Sadly, I just didn't find the game itself that fun. Banjo-Kazooie is Get Stuff: The Game. Find the puzzle pieces, find the music notes, find the eggs, find the feathers, find the honeycombs, find the skulls, find the... Muppets. I just don't care about finding that many things. Levels are big and it takes a long time to get from one largely empty space to the next, and all the while I have to search every nook and cranny for the Stuff™. You can be wandering about aimlessly in a single level for a whole hour, or what feels like a lifetime.

Just give me a task to complete for a star, like in Mario 64. Or make engaging levels that have a clear way to go, filled with platforming challenges and a reasonable number of collectibles to pick up as I go along, like in the classic Spyro titles. Amusingly, I find myself more intrigued by the derided Nuts and Bolts entry than Banjo-Tooie -- both appear to be bigger and emptier takes on the first game, but at least Nuts and Bolts gives you a car to travel around with more quickly.

Here I was thinking Rare Replay was coming to Switch, so I could finally play Banjo-Kazooie in modern form, in portable fashion.. and then I learn he's a character in a game I truly loathe. Yeahhh that burned a lot, as I'm sure it did many non-Smash players. Like, the game's already got enough characters to steal the thunder... again. They even had Donkey Kong & Co. when the Jiggy bounced through the house! I thought for sure it was Rare Replay or even a new installment.

Happy for you Smashers though. For us on the other side though, that stung and I need to check my heart and soul into a battered women's shelter.
