Normally a platformer like this would get me super frustrated and eventually abandoning playing it; however, the rewind function the port allows, in addition to save states, makes the game approachable, while still hard.

I have been having a LOT of fun with the game, the artwork and ambiance is super cool, and it has been a lot of fun experimenting with the different weapon types.
I have one more level left before beating the game, so full review once I finish.

I tried out each weapon and enjoyed the blade (sword or dagger or whatever it is) the most due to its rapid fire. Made sure to use its ultimate magic attack for invincibility frames. Found the bosses to be rather easy and anti-climatic compared to the extreme difficulty of the levels themselves and did not like the infinitely respawning enemies (of course I save state scummed hard). The worst part of the game was one organic level with scrolling platforming and the platforms hidden behind the background. Had a lot of WTF deaths there until I went into the emulator settings and turned off the layer that was the offender. Then I had nice simple platforming on a solid black background, just like a good old NES game. I decided not to immediately go through the game again for the real ending. Might do it later.
