I played it on the Switch and used the wind back feature this emulation offers quite often as I would not really be able to enjoy this game without it. I do not have any nostalgia for this game as I am too young to have played it back in the days. And I do believe that this was mind blowing in a time when arcade games were a thing. Figuring out the secrets and hidden blocks and the tricky parts over several runs was probably really fun back then. I can really appreciate what this game set in motion tough, but I for my part did not really have fun playing it in 2021. The worst parts were definetly 7-4 and 8-4 because these are the levels where they added these maze like puzzles where you have to traverse the level in a specific order to proceed. Its trial and error design 101 and simply annoying. This is NOT a bad game, but I simply did not enjoy playing it as much as I hoped to.

One of the first video games I ever played and it still has lots of value today. The slippery controls are a little weird to go back to now, but this still stands out as a great game.

I'm trying to finish this without using savestates. With one exception, I'm using one save-state to simulate leaving a NES on pause so that I don't actually have to beat it in one sitting. I mean, would THAT be required to have considered finished the game like people did back in the day?

Ok, let's try this again. I think I deleted my previous post.

I really want to buy this thing, but I am worried it will be impossible. Based on how well the NES and SNES Classic launches went, and how fast the Analogue Pocket pre-order ended, I have a deep seeded fear that there's no way bots won't buy up …

I really want to buy this thing, but I am worried it will be impossible. Is anyone else playing this Super Mario Bros Battle Royale thingy? It's a browser-based game, really fun. I'm terrible at it. I suggest checking it out soon because Nintendo will be sending the nukes over very soon I predict:

Just played and finished this on 3DS 2 times through (with a little help from save states). Didn't plan on using them at first but got pretty tired of Bowser jumping around and throwing hammers/fireballs randomly forcing me to replay already tough worlds from the start. The final straw was having him on the other side of the screen throwing hammers in front of me, then somehow SHOOTING A FIREBALL OUT OF THE HAMMER A FOOT IN FRONT OF ME killing me instantly.

The "second quest" didn't feel too different from the first imo, so you can take it or leave it.

Overall I can see why this game was/is so revered, but without any personal nostalgia for it I can't say that it has aged very gracefully.

The game that started it all. I haven't played since 1987. The familiar levels brought back all kinds of nostalgia. But all social impact aside, the game felt very random and was really only fun because of its classic play.

8-2! Finally my childhood dream of completing this game is near at hand!
