I Don't know why A simple screen where you shoot ducks is too much fun to play.
Seriously, I enjoyed this game more than I should.

I mean, what can you say? Iconic. We played this game so much growing up. We did the lightbulb thing, of course. Defining, but also very simple. Some more modes would've been cool, some customisations? We had the OG orange Zapper. Wait, isn't Duck Hunt the original first person shooter? Anyway, classic.

Ah, the memories! As a kid having NES as my first gaming platform, I used to love playing this, Hogan's Alley and Wild Gunman. These games were something else, opening the door to a whole new world. Grabbing my NES Zapper and being a part of the game is a feeling I am still missing to this day. Sure, we have modern solutions like VR to offer a similar feeling, I think there is even a remake/sequel to this game there too, but it's not the same. You had to experience this yourself to know what I'm talking about.
A relatively simple game, where you shoot ducks (or clay pots) and try not to miss, because the punishment is cruel. Well, not really, but let's face it, that damn dog laughing at you probably made you trying to shoot him too, if you were in my shoes.
And that's all about it, simple right? So what is really great about this game? What made it really unforgivable experience for me was the NES Zapper Gun, a physial object that you could feel, aim with and shoot the birds yourself. As a kid you couldn't dream about more, than becoming a hunter or in other games the cop/cowboy yourself. It was pretty cool, I can tell you that. Unfortunately, nowadays it's hard to set up a gaming environment for this game without an original console with the Zapper, the game and a CRT monitor, and these are not the common Christmas shopping items these days, for only a few nostalgic games. Too bad! But maybe someday, a worthy remake with modern solutions will come providing the same feeling, only better :)

History:
Who hasn't played Duck Hunt
Expectations:
...It's Duck Hunt.

So one of the few drawbacks, perhaps the only drawback, of running my consoles into an HDTV is that light gun games don't work. Luckily (?) Nintendo just released Duck Hunt to the eShop, so I dropped my fiver on it and fired it up.

It's... okay... I guess... My kid will probably like it more than I did. Don't get me wrong! I love me some Duck Hunt, but my love for the game came from staring down the iron (plastic?) sights and killing me some ducks. This game has two options: Crosshairs, making the game absurdly easy, or no crosshairs, making it nearly impossible to judge where the Wiimote is actually pointing. I found I had more fun with the crosshairs on.
Conclusion:
Well, I played it. It's not the same, but I don't want to drag out the CRT just for Duck Hunt.
Play it Again?
No, at least not on the Wii.
