Bases Loaded is a baseball game that was released for Arcade and the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1987. It was developed by Jaleco and TOSE, and was the first installment in the Bases Loaded series, which was followed by seven sequels for three generations of consoles. The game tried to focus on the confrontation between the pitcher and the batter, putting emphasis on the face-off between the two. Unfortunately, this made the perspective fairly limited in determining where to hit the ball, or even where the ball was during a pitch. Read less

Great game for its day

I'm a bit surprised at the low ratings on this one! Sure, it doesn't hold up to advancements made in baseball games since, but for its time and place in Nintendo history, you gotta give this game some props. I'm a bit surprised at the low ratings on this one! Sure, it doesn't hold up to advancements made in baseball games since, but for its time and place in Nintendo history, you gotta give this game some props. There really wasn't any games this good at the time, and it's still fun to play, as long as you understand its limitations.

So very curious, what do you not like about this one? I'll give some weak points to it below, but I'm interested in seeing why y'all didn't like it.

Weak points:

1) The outfielders are slow as molasses in January. It's awesome that the field is SO BIG, but you get the ball in the corner, and it feels like the play is going to take 20 years.

2) I hate passwords, and this one has the longest password system of any other game I played.

3) When playing the computer, it really feels like the game is programmed to keep you from getting too far ahead. Doesn't matter how well you play, it feels like the computer is going to pop some homers late in the game to catch up.

4) It doesn't seem like the players' stats actually mean anything. All the pitchers are the same, etc.

So if this thing came out today, no. But it didn't. It did a really good job of using an 8-bit system to produce a good baseball game. It produced tons of fun back in the day.
