Preliminary: See my status update for my initial reaction to the game when playing it on an arcade machine. I am excited tho, based on my rave initial reaction ha, but also that I read it can be just a straightforward action game, however there are choices and secrets and warps and ways to make basically 2+ games within it, while still maintaining the pick up and play action game foundation. That's what I like to hear!
And wow yea right off the bat Imma have to agree with my original reaction that this had to influence Tomba. The fluffy trees, the pigs, etc. The music and Look are amazing, I love it so much. Too bad this character moves sooooo slowly, tho I'm glad to see there are power-ups for that. Still.. sheesh.
Day 1
Not only is the movement sluggish, but also the jump is a bit clunky. Other than that though, all of the Look is SO amazing. I love it so much. I couldn't even start to take screenshots tho cuz a) it's fast-paced and b) I'd be endlessly taking screenshots haha. I quickly took one of the world map type place, but that's all you're gonna get :-p watch a playthrough or better yet, play it yourself!
Like I noticed the first time I played this, I really like how the death mechanic is so forgiving (you start right where you were) and there is no time limit phew.
I believe I'm on the 2nd to last world already! And it's still holding my interest. I love when a game knows when to be done, and not overstay its welcome.
It's a nice touch that many different enemies have their own unique animations for taking damage or what happens when you hit them, always fitting with the water theme. Like you destroy the seagull esque enemy by overfilling it with water till it bursts heh. Just tons of nice touches that show this was a game the creators were excited to make.
It has as lot of the niceties I like to see in action-platformers: you can smack away most projectiles etc.
Uff that final boss was hard, but I did it! And one can expect that from final bosses. Oh shoot, that wasn't the final boss
Ahhhh and as if it really needed help solidifying this as a 5 star for me, it has the sunset type fade out for the ending, great tunes continued, a beautiful final phrase, ah! If only I found the Play a bit more spectacular, this could be a new Favorite. And very well may grow to be one the more I play it on the arcade machine too.
Look: 9/10 Wow
Sound: 9/10 Wow
Play: 8.5/10 Addictive, short, full of multiple paths but also pick up and play. A bit clunky at times, but overall hooked me
Feel: 9/10 Wow. Plus I have access to the arcade machine so...
