Bust-A-Move (also known as Puzzle Bobble) is a real-time puzzle game in which the player controls a device called "pointer" at the bottom of the screen, aiming and releasing randomly colored bubbles upwards. Depending on the aiming, the bubbles may float up directly or bounce off the walls, changing their trajectory. The goal is to aim the bubbles in such a way that they will touch identically colored ones. When such bubbles form a group of three or more, they pop and disappear from the screen. If the ceiling of the area is covered by too many bubbles, it will gradually descend; the game is over when it nearly reaches the player-controlled pointer. Should the player fail to release the bubbles within a specific time limit, they will be released automatically, unaffected by the pointer's aiming. Read less

My Kind of Arcade Puzzle Game

Preliminary: (I played the original Japanese arcade version for this playthrough, I'll have to doublecheck the version I played on the arcade machine pretty sure it was the US release) I definitely see what I meant when I said Tomba-esque music! Preliminary: (I played the original Japanese arcade version for this playthrough, I'll have to doublecheck the version I played on the arcade machine pretty sure it was the US release) I definitely see what I meant when I said Tomba-esque music! And I'm really enjoyign the gameplay so far! Usually arcade puzzle games aren't my thing, but the music and fun way of bouncing/planning is nice so far. I am sure later levels I will burn out.

Ahhh level 4 got real close there haha. With the music speeding up-ah! I like how if you get 3 together up above, it will drop all below, allowing for some fun strategy.

Gosh yea it gets really hard aroudn stage 10. And there are 30 stages! It's fun when there's a really hard level adn then the next one you get super fast thanks to a got-a-trio-up-above situation etc. They probly intended for that flow :-p I am on Stage 15 and still really enjoying it :-p This one's really tricky so I will return to it later. I wish the house repair stuff would finish so I can go outside! Or feel comfortable playing my music haha

Day 1

Lol like I think it was Round 17 then 18, or 18 then 19, one was so brutally hard and I only got through on the very last possible move, and then the next one had a bunch of silver balls piled on top and tada, just a few moves they were all down.

I thought this would just be a 3 or 4 star but this might actually earn a 5 star. Which is very rare for puzzle games. If I get through all or almost all 30 levels it definitely deserves that. Only complaint so far is a) the one song gets repeated over and over (luckily I love the song haha) and b) at the final parts of a level it gets annoying when a color you just elminated keeps coming in so you have to keep redoing it to finish up. I tried strategically waiting to have that color explode until the last of the balls was through but then it infinitely went that color it seemed, or maybe it was just bad rng.

Mind you I didn't even mute it at any point lol. I am now almost at Round 30! Wow!

Welp I'm on Round 30! I wonder if this is really the alst stage or if that's just misinformation from online haha.

Wow, very impressed with this game, even with its flaws enter image description here enter image description here enter image description here enter image description here

Look: 8.5/10 Pretty standard fare for an arcade game, but I really liked some of the settings, that there was a nice cozy ending, and the detail in the balls

Sound: 8.5/10 Could have definitely used variety, but this is as cute and perfect as an arcade tune can get. If there were a couple more tunes, this would have easily been a 9.

Play: 9/10 Imperfect, but among the best puzzle games I've played, perhaps my favorite arcade puzzle game so far.

Feel: 9/10 I have access to this on arcade and it was fun with my brother and now it was a blast solo on the computer so it's all around a vibe.

Attachment: 9/10 I know I will return to it cuz it's a 2 player game available at my parents' place and it stands out among puzzle games.

Overall: 8.8/10

Completion: Main Story

Playtime: ~1h 20m
