Beat in less than 1 hr; very short game. It was a very simple game; move around a small map collecting people while shooting infinite enemies, then fight a shoot em up style boss. The aliens became more dangerous as the levels progressed but I found the fast melee only ones in the 2nd last stage to be the hardest. Too bad they never appeared in mixed forces. Shooting was in 8 directions and even enemies could hit those diagonals. The basic shot weapon had limited range, as did the flame but that might have helped with those melee enemies. The fireball and laser went the entire screen, which helped tremendously against bosses. The piercing of the laser made it the best. Only 1 projectile could be on screen though, so shooting again too soon ruined the long range. Not too bad for an early NES game but it could have been fleshed out a lot more. The basic gameplay was too simple and repetitive while the boss fights were the highlights.

I really tried to 1CC this, which is actually necessary since the arcade version doesn't allow continues. But I ultimately got too frustrated and set the dip switches to free play and blew through it. The farthest I had gotten on standard play was the boss of stage 4, and seeing what was after that, I'm glad I didn't keep trying to beat it legitimately. It's a very cool game! I love the look and it's pretty satisfying. It's just so hard to get through in one continue with two extra lives when one hit is death.
