Well, when I said "I have 20 minutes, I'm going to find out how many points I get today in Space Harrier II" today I didn't expect to beat the game!

It was my third attempt (but I played the first one many times through Yakuza and Shenmue games) and I didn't reach even the half of the game in …

The game is fun and quite impressive for a Genesis game. The only downside is the difficulty. The game is way to difficult and the Final Stage is simply unfair - you have to beat all of the bosses which you had already beat throughout the game (12 bosses) plus the Dark Harrier, who is no walk in the park.

A game where the Controls are the hardest part about it.

Took me awhile to get used to the controls (a few days).

This game is pretty simple. It's basically a Run n Gun but Racing style kind of action.

I didn't Enjoy it as much as I should, I got burned out learning the controls and even after resting from the game for awhile, All I did was remember How …

It's not all bad though, The difficulty gave me a good challenge and the weird graphical effect and stuff added to the challenge. I kinda like it but I didn't enjoy it.

If you liked Space Harrier, you'll probably like II too. Well, it's not as slick and smooth as the arcade original, but it plays well enough, especially for a Genesis launch title.

These games get tough and feel like it half-depends on luck to not get hit by anything, and you die in one hit. That said, they're still pretty …

These games get tough and feel like it half-depends on luck to not get hit by anything, and you die in one hit. That said, they're still pretty fun. And they still look great, even today. I love how psychedelic and trippy the alien worlds are, and how unique all the bosses look. Had to have blown everyone's minds back in the late 80s. Or maybe not, maybe this shit was normal-looking back then lol. Either way, these sorts of pixel-based forward-flying shmups have sure aged a lot better than the early polygon-based titles (like Starfox). Worth messing around in for a quick round or two with friends.

Space Harrier II - Not Much Different

Space Harrier II is on one end, an impressive achievement of taking a hit arcade game and porting an equivalent years later on a console system, the Genesis. What does it really do different, though?

Honestly, not much different. There's nothing particularly wrong with the game, but if you've played the first Space Harrier, you'll notice less stages, less visual quality, and pretty much the exact same thing in terms of gameplay. Some of the bosses are uniquely recognizable and cool, like the wyrm with a lady's head and the flying tiger that runs on the ground when you shoot off its wings.

In the end though, Space Harrier II remains solidly in the middle, without any new jumps on its own but a solid launch title for the Genesis.
