Dogyuun is a vertically scrolling SHMUP that hails from as early as 1992... The game itself isn't very fancy. There are four style of weapon power-ups to pick from, (and there are no weapon upgrades.) weapon power-ups will undergo chromatic hue shift about every four seconds from purple to blue to green representing the flavor of weapon to be collected. The game really does have a pretty nice look and sound, but the gameplay is overall mediocre.

For one thing, this is one of those shooters that suffers from knocking you back at death and having to repeat a little of the map again, but it seems to be based on your advance (rather than static checkpoints like most games... still, who doesnt hate that crap?) You can get stuck in tougher spots because of it if you dare play it legit.
haha, do it! i dare you to play legit. I'm hungry for quarters!

The game has a few odd mechanics that fail to win me over. You have two additional power-ups that are 'modes' for your craft (and you can only pick one of them) either a single use bomb-mode, or you can pick dash-module (continuous dashing with the bomb button instead... and you can keep it. So considering you can keep the dash, it seems like no brainer.)
The game has decent looking robotic bosses with destructible anatomies. Disabling weapons, and severing limbs.d Some of these fights are quite gruelling and the game has a few areas that are grievously difficult.
The game also has a few tricks and secrets. Your craft has a hidden ability that is a tractor beam. You can collect ships, weapon crates, and other objects, its not very clear why.
One of the things you can do with this tractor beam is discovered in a 2 player game. In pure Galaga like fashion... Player 1 can simply steal the player 2 ship with his tractor beam to double his fire power.

I thought we were on a team, this is just theft!
Playing the game with two credits is an interesting way for the game to steal twice your quarters. But ist a novel gameplay element that I'm glad I read on, because it really seems to be the way the game is meant to be played (and it's probably the most unique thing about the game). when you get hit, player 2's craft blows up and you continue to go. You can simply keep putting in quarters using this method to keep getting a wearable craft suit.

After about 9 levels in (pretty much impossible to play legit regardless of how much quarters you have after level 3) you are greeted with the last level which has a little surprise that is clever and inventive, as well as a nasty showdown with the last boss.
After that, its time to loop the game again, and be greeted with faster bullets!
In summary and conclusion this is a mediocre-to-decent (3.5) game that looks and sounds really nice for its day. The music alternates from one level to the next and there are about 4-5 tracks, some of which are pretty nice.
