That Classic Early 90s Aesthetic Helps Carry This Decent-Enough Graphic Adventure
Preliminary: Oooo I like the looks of this. I am going to play the original floppy disk version, not the CD release in 94. Hopefully that doesn't have too big of an effect!

I was a bit unsure again at first because of the slow beginning and need to sit through credits just to play the game etc. But I like the music and colors and concept so far. Cute bedroom you start in, reminding me of Pajama Sam No Need To Hide. I am liking it so far, but quite disappointed to read that there's no hotkeys to switch to different verbs and no right-click-for-the-presumed-desired-verb feature -- some basic QoL features for a 93 graphic adventure game imo.
Day 1
If it weren't for the excellent Sound and Look, including amazing fireplace animations/shadows, and a nice quirky advengture game Feel from these, I would've given this a 2 star and move on. But those type things realyl get me to push through just-okay gameplay I've noticed. Not that the game is bad so far, it's your usual graphic adventrue game fare, with a bit too much pixel hunting (those Matches smh, that's when I turned to a guide haha) and lack of QoL features. But whether or not I finish this, I suppose it's okay it'll likely end up with a 3 star cuz the music and vibes are making me enjoy my journey.
Yep. Flawed, with silly puzzles (as per usual) and pixel hunting problems and QoL issues and basically requires a guide or at least hintbook etc etc, yet my goodness this music and the animation of the torches in the Dwarf Mine and Look in general bring me just an amazing feeling. This may even move its way up to a 4 star as long as I don't burn out from the slow movement, time it takes for him to take things out of inventory/put in, etc. Imma remind myself to take a deep breath, enjoy the vibes, and not feel rushed despite my backlog glaring at me.
Such a variety to the tunes too (tho this looks like a long one, so they may eventually get too repetitive). And I love love love the Map for fast travel feature. Wild they have that but not hotkeys for the commands. Maybe the later versions did?
This wasn't necessarily the best screen or anything but I finally took a moment to take a screenshot, the animation of the water flowing etc and the shadows/detail were just so nice
Some of the dialog is dragging though, it's funny and all but just too long. I am trying to maintain my patience but I'm teetering back to a 3 star vibe.
And with the music feeling less spectacular and the Look losing that initial oomph (or it's just cuz I took a break to go out for dinner and not in same vibe now), whatever it is, I was really thinking about ending it unfinished even tho I still ilke it enough. But its nice QoL things keep coming up , like I've noticed there's been no petty RNG-based deaths and no time-based missable things/game-ending situations, everything can be recuperated and time-based things can be redone etc.
Another nice screen
Ok after another short little break I am feeling it more again and able to re-enter that world, that nostalgic feeling of an early PC game. The music is clicking again, even the same tunes I wasn't clicking with early. Shows how inaccurate these ratings are! Heh. Every session can be different. Anyway, I noticed another positive: inventory management has not been a headache at all. I love that that is the new norm in graphic adventures of early 90s. And it's neat to see the Map fill in as you adventure. And a lot of little things are giving me classic adventure game and RPG vibes/Feels, like Milthril Ore even tho I know that's from LOTR it gave me a pang of Feels. And the Wizard's group at the bar reminds me of early Runescape for some reason. But other little things too. The 2-headed storekeeper reminds me of Putt Putt Goes To The Moon, which was released soon after this.
I'm so close to the end based on this guide, but it's about time to watch part of a movie and go to bed. So my main lingering complaint is how slow the dialog is, even if it's good dialog and excellent font.
Day 2
Well darn, my save must've gotten corrupted or something. Booooo. I was just getting to the Tower of Doom, if only I had finished it yesterday >.< Hard to discern exactly where I would've landed with the ratings
Look: 8.5/10
Sound: 9/10
Play: 7.5/10 I had waves of really liking it, and some great QoL features, but really it was the Feel/Sound/Look that shined.
Feel: 8/10
Attachment: 7.5/10 A bit sluggish for a replay, but likely would make my list of early graphic adventures to replay
Overall: 8.1/10
Completion: To Tower of Doom, so basically the end!
Playtime: ~2h 30m
