SNES: Played all levels on emulator. Very hard but fun. I certainly didn't enjoy the (respawning) enemies constantly appearing out of nowhere, like in Crystal Caves. The green big monster thing and the final boss were pretty annoying. Overall a great challenge that feels rewarding.
GB: Completed on console. Apparently a remake of the PC "Prehistorik" (2?). Pretty bland and unispired when compared to the SNES version. The hitboxes are TERRIBLE. Not recommended.
Beat on Normal. Did not care for the aesthetic theme of blending modern culture with stone age stuff, kind of like the Flintstones. Story was decent with an impressive amount of guidance for the different mechanics. However I found that the game used these mechanics as one time things rather than creating complex challenges that incorporated multiple mechanics. Like the invisible platforms and thrown spears, which were only used in a single stage each. Same with the vehicles, and I really disliked the handling of every vehicle. I especially disliked how 2 of the vehicle stages forced you to explore the level and collect diamonds. I do not care for collecting stuff, I just want to get to the end and kill stuff along the way. I did find it amusing when the old man ripped into me for not collecting enough stuff. Some parts of the game were very challenging and I would not have the patience to do it without save states; mostly platforming but the 2nd boss took quite a few tries to figure out. It was even harder than the 3rd and final bosses. My emulator failed to load the 2nd last level right after the …

It was even harder than the 3rd and final bosses. My emulator failed to load the 2nd last level right after the 3rd boss. No idea why. I used a level select cheat to bypass it to the last level, and managed to finish the game with only 3 hp instead of the 5 I had (6 is max according to walkthrough). I also had to turn off a graphic layer in order to see my guy, but it also made the final boss's head invisible, making the fight a bit harder. I jumped on his head and kept smacking him.
I did like a few of the more unique mechanics, such as being able to get your health back after killing the enemy that hurt you and collecting the little hearts that drop, panning the screen around, and the ultimate shout that kills all enemies on screen. But this game lacks many of the intricacies of Super Mario World, and is thus a far inferior game.
