Sengoku 3 is a beat-em-up I wanted to love, but in the end I merely like it. Which is fine. It gets the job done, and it does have some strong points worth highlighting. For starters, the actual fighting is pretty great in this. In old beat-em-ups you're often just punching and kicking your way through the stages, but in Sengoku 3 you have more variety in your combos as well as some super moves that are a bit reminiscent of 1-vs-1 fighting game moves. This is a beat-em-up with some depth to it, and you can really spend some time diving into its intricacies if you so desire.
That said, the game is kind of dull presentation-wise. The characters, the enemies, the bosses, the stages, the music -- nothing is memorable to me, nothing stands out. I also felt like most enemies required more hits than is standard to kill them, and screens progressed extremely slowly. You are stuck on a single screen, having to kill wave after wave of enemy, and it just takes forever to move on to anything new... most of the time the next screen being extremely similar to the previous, filled with the same enemies. All in all a game that's technically very good, but in practice not as much fun as other, simpler beat-em-ups.
