enter image description hereI was about to give this a 3/5 but holy cow did chapter 7 (the last one) make me angry. After the first minute of "Wow this looks gorgeous" it became very apparent that the developer tried to stretch playtime. Endlessly running around without anything to do - the dev knew what they were doing when they suddenly removed the stamina cap on running. Combined with an insanely confusing level design that resulted in me running through the whole level THREE FRIGGIN TIMES before realizing I need to make a sharp turn to the right after jumping off the ledge at the end.... Why even loop the level like that??? I spent 40 minutes of my life running around like a headless chicken. Let's just say the combination of mind-numbing boredom and confused frustration almost made me want to hurt something.

The Hilariously-Get-Stuck-On-Stairs-Simulator.

In all honesty though, there's a lot wrong with this game but it looks and sounds gorgeous. Plus I'm still having a decent amount of fun three hours in.

This is free on Epic Games right now at the time of this writing... I recently played through "The First Tree", a game where you are also a fox, and it was "OK"

Maybe this will be a bit more impressive?

Just finished this and I'm giving it 5 out of 5. Not because it's groundbreaking, novel, clever, a technical marvel etc, it's absolutely not, and many official reviews give it a poor "score". It's because I've spent the past few months playing it with my 7 year old daughter and it's beautiful and serene. Just wandering around in a beautiful …

Just wandering around in a beautiful landscape as a fox / fox spirit, exploring and having a wonderful time. Both myself and my daughter are extremely sad it's finished.

Let's just start off with the straight forward bit: I enjoyed the game overall. It's charming, and generally it's fun to run around as a fox.

Let's just start off with the straight forward bit: I enjoyed the game overall. It's charming, and generally it's fun to run around as a fox.

Now to the boring bit: Overall it feels like this game took inspiration from, and wanted to do a similar thing to Journey. Atleast the game felt like it to me. Sadly, this game is not as polished as Journey is. This is one of those games where it feels like the creators kinda lost faith in their core concept and had to "gamify" it more with timed jumps and things to make it more challenging.

To me these things generally just got in the way of the core feeling of the game. Maybe they wanted to do timed jumps and other things? But it doesn't really fit with what it feels like to be the fox running through the game.

Would be nicer if the developers could have focused more on the experience and exploration, maybe do more for the relationship between you and the side character.

I also experienced a few glitches and misses in game design: at one point textures randomly got a red tint blinking. When starting a new chapter my joy cons got stuck on vibrate. Twice i accidentally dropped the stick next to a password thing and could not pick it up because i could only interact with the password thing, so i could not deliver those collectibles. At one point i did a puzzle out of order and had to restart the chapter.
