90's flavour

If you've been out of the gaming scene for a while, let's saaaay... from the 8-bit era, this game won't give you any novelty feeling, which is in turn the reason it feels so fresh today.

Seriously, one might say that Hörberg Productions resumed some forgotten project from 20 years ago and adjusted the looks to the current standards. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure that's not the case but it has this awesome NES flavor.

The game looks and sounds amazing and, despite being (very) short it's a really enjoyable experience. The difficulty level is just right: challenging but not frustrating. There are no lives, but if you die, you go all the way back to the beginning of the stage. Fair enough.

It follows the typical "save the girl" plot, without any dialog beyond a "Help" scream from the girl as she's kidnapped by the bad guys. You'll start chasing them through the typical western village just to end up... well, you'll see!

THE BEST:

  • Beautiful looks and catchy sound track
  • That retro flavour: simple, 2 buttons control, power ups, challenging but fun gameplay
  • Believe it or not, the plot still has room for surprises!

THE ONLY REASON WHY I DID NOT GIVE IT THE LAST STAR:

  • Short... very short. Once you beat it, you unlock other playable characters, which add some replayability (trust me, you'll want to beat it with all the characters!), but it took me a bit under 3 hours to fully complete the game. In case you are into the speed run stuff, the game keeps track of the time it took you to beat every stage.

I thought this took much longer than it did

This is what would happen if someone made an NES game with modern sensibilities. I like it.

Really amateur level design, game-feel, and mechanics. If insta-death pitfalls are the biggest hazard in your run 'n' gun game, then you know your design philosophy is lacking.

A decent platformer with a great art style.
