Minecraft: Java Edition (2011)

Just recently started a fresh new server with a large group of friends. Before I always played it with just two persons and quickly gave up after building the first simple base structure.

This time, with eight players around it's a whole different story and recently I just caught myself playing for six hours straight completly forgetting about the time.

The graphics are iconic and timeless, the music and atmosphere serene and nostalgic. It's a sandbox, thus there's no real goal but the one you find for yourself. Finding beautiful animals and bring them home, learning about new ressources to grind and use to decorate your house were mine personally.

Minecraft is a Metaverse in the sense that you come online just to hang out, the social aspect is passively implied by the core mechanism of base building. As such, it has a wholesomeness to it that's hard to be compared. I finally grasped the appeal of this classic.

Man. It's Minecraft.

Me and my high school friends, from around ages 12 to 15, would play this together for hours every day after school, and I still to this day have so many fond memories. It's not a game that immediately comes to mind when I think about my all-time favourites, but after some consideration I believe it warrants a place on that list for its longevity, its sentimental value, how easy it is as a method of bringing people together, and how broad and full of possibilities it is as an avenue for almost any kind of world or game-within-a-game you can think of.

Game number 37 was Minecraft. This review will be very short because Minecraft on the Xbox 360 is not worth playing and this review is kinda unneeded. Minecraft is a crafting game, where you collect blocks and supplies. You then use these blocks to craft many things and build interesting things. The end goal of the game is officially to beat the Ender Dragon, but many people ignore this and just go about their own business.

Minecraft is a fantastic game and everyone who plays video games needs to play it at least once… but the Xbox 360 edition is not the best way to play the game because it hasn’t been updated in years. Surprisingly, it got updated all the way into 2018, but it is still missing lots of content from the PC or Xbox Series X release. It’s fun… but why here? I almost feel weird rating it because it has no need… but it's still great. (9/10)

At first glance, Minecraft might appear to be an exceedingly simple game, centered around mining, crafting, and possibly combat, though that's not the crux of the matter. Defeating the game's ultimate boss, the Ender Dragon, can be accomplished in 2-3 days of gameplay (without utilizing speedrun strategies and dedicating time to constructing the perfect base). Yet, what sets this game apart? What makes it so incredibly compelling, even addicting?

The answer to this question can be summed up in a single word: freedom. It's hard to conceive of a game with more possibilities than Minecraft. The universe within Minecraft is entirely within your control. All the mechanics of Minecraft are open to exploration. Even if the game itself seems mundane, you have the ability to install mods that can completely reshape the game according to your desires.

Mods play an immensely significant role in making this game enjoyable for everyone. A plethora of mods for different game versions can transform the game into something resembling DayZ, Left 4 Dead 2, Counter-Strike, and many more. The enthusiasm of the gaming community invested in Minecraft is boundless. Each day, new mods emerge for different versions of Minecraft. They vary in size, but collectively they constitute a pivotal element of the entire Minecraft community.

However, the freedom inherent in Minecraft also presents a challenge: the potential for aimlessness. When you're uncertain about what you want to achieve, Minecraft can become perplexing. Even a mod won't be of much help if you're unsure how to navigate the world you've constructed. This is perhaps the only drawback I perceive in Minecraft.

Minecraft has undergone continuous development over a substantial period. Numerous versions have introduced new features, keeping the game vibrant and engaging. Even veteran players discover something novel to engage with.

Exploring multiplayer functionality would extend this review indefinitely. However, it's worth noting that there are numerous servers hosting diverse mini-games such as hide-n-seek, spleef, and more.

Minecraft is genuinely addictive. All it takes is to click "create a new world" to plunge entirely into the game and never find your way back out. This world becomes your canvas—to build, to destroy, to resurrect from ashes—to emerge as the deity of this blocky realm.

Been playing this game for a few days each day for about an hour and I haven't found a single reason why this game is popular.

I gave it a try on some random servers and despite enjoying it for sometimes, It felt like a chore to play.

maybe my taste in games is so different or I'm playing this game wrong, so far I've never got any Enjoyment out of it (not counting the Online sessions).

The highest-selling game of all time also happens to be good, look at that! Now, I think it’s weird to review this game, since it also focuses on online servers and multiplayer experiences, but I’ll try my best.

PROS:

• The world is basically your own. You can go at your own pace, make your own decisions and you can build a world that you are truly proud of.

• An amazing scope of creativity. The design of this game is extremely complex for an indie game and it’s cool that it’s being used for educational purposes

• It gets filled with constant updates. These updates fundamentally improve the game, and it’s super cool that every year new items, blocks, biomes, and mechanical features are changed.

• The visual style (while yes, kinda stolen) is still simple while being visually pleasing that gets updated with new textures that can be used to create castles, kingdoms, ships, and anything you can imagine.

• I never talk about the community, but the whole community (is yes toxic sometimes) has built foundations of platforms like YouTube, the several minigame servers and SMPs, it’s a community experience that I’ve never truly seen before.

CONS:

• Some elements do feel unfinished sometimes, and waiting for that update to fix it can be very frustrating.

• This game is very subjective, everyone has an opinion, so it won’t appeal to anyone. From what I can tell, the pace definitely brings a lot of people off, which is understandable, waiting for your builds and resources to grow can be very off putting to some people.

This game is extremely subjective. Whereas I can defend a ton of games that I like, I can’t for this. It’s an amazing experience that brings a ton of people together, and the story behind its full creation is interesting. The amount of people this game brought together on platforms makes me really happy for the players, and it’s fun to watch them together. The fact that there is an "Education Edition" itself is great and that this is a learning resource. I can’t really describe this game other than "fun". An "experience" is really what this game strives to be. Go play this game, the oversaturation that it has is annoying, but if you haven’t go give it a first try, if you don’t like it, that’s fine. You could be missing out on a creative masterpiece.

This is the epitome of my guilty pleasure and it is mostly because the gaming community loves to take a gander about how this game sucks, apparently. But it's a calming little game, relaxing and it helps quite a bit. Satisfactory too, if we count the immense strides one can go during a survival game.

The content for it it's also quite fantastic, adding only to a better immersive experience with packs like FTB and with resource packs that are so pretty to look at it's almost another game entirely.

All in all, 10/10.

Minecraft is more than a game now it's a society phenomena. If you say "I never played Minecraft" usually there is at leat one person that answer "seriously ?".

This game is THE reference of the sandbox survival building genre, it openned the door to a whole new generation of survivors games, building games etc... Basically in Minecraft you can and you do what you want and it's the main power of the game, add to this mods (a lot) and multiplayer and you have an atemporal game that marked history. Minecraft is an experience like other classical (Doom, Half Life etc...). I spent hundred of hours building massive city by my hown in this game and long unforgetable nights playing with friends asking myself "when I'm going to stop ?". I moderated servers, survived nights and nights. And I never regretted a single time the 5$ I spent when I bought it. Maybe now Notch is gone, but I think the original core, spirit of the game still here. If you never played Minecraft go for it you'll not be disapointed ;)
