Amazing Side Game But Really Short
This review is for the PlayStation 4 version

Rating 4/5

I am a huge fan of the Saints Row franchise and this game was really fun to play as Gat and Kinzie. It was on the shorter side but it was meant as a side game not a main-line title. I loved the quests and activities and all the super powers. I am close to platinuming this game and it was bit of a grind but it was worth it. Definitely recommend this game if you like Saints row or want to get into a Saints row mainline game after this.

It’s totally fine
This review is for the PlayStation 4 version

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with this, there’s just nothing exceptional, either. You get exactly what it says on the tin: Saint’s Row gameplay, but in hell. Just like IV, it does a better job of super powered gameplay than most superhero based games, but the main thrust of the gameplay is to do distraction type missions. Even in an expansion this short, solely working through those narrative-lite-if-at-all missions got boring part way through.

More saints for everyone

I'm a big fan of the SR series since SR3. Gat Out of Hell is more of the same - actually, it's pretty much a short version of SR3 with a demonic re-skin.

It's not that it's bad - It isn't - but I wanted new stuff. Most activities are repeats from the earlier games, and while the main story is cool and funny, and there are nice jokes sprinkled around, the re-skin doesn't refresh things enough for my tastes. It's still fun to do "torment fraud" and flying around feels nice, but I suggest playing this game as a diversion in bursts rather than spending a lot of time on it all at once.

this was the first game i played on the ps4! i dont know why i remember that. definitely not the best saints row game or anything but its so over the top with everything its hard for it to be considered "too much" when thats kind of the whole point. its really fun and entertaining and johnny gat is a legend

Beat the game on Hard. I completed most of the game content; pretty much everything except all of the collectibles. Hard made this game very difficult at first and I could barely survive, though as the game went on I found it easier. I only drove vehicles a few times; right at the beginning and a few times using an APC for added firepower and survival.

I used the hand crossbow as one of my main weapons due to its range and precision. I used the brimstone smg and soulsweeper shotgun for close to mid range. I think I got the lava cannon from enemies and remember using that for the early game. The Sloth armchair was one of my most used weapons later on and one of the few weapons that I spent money to keep topped up with ammo. Sitting back in the chair behind cover and spamming homing missiles; that is the way to fight. Anyone who comes at me gets the dual gatling guns to the face. The lower movement speed of the chair is a liability though so I had to be careful. Used this weapon to great effect against some of the more difficult …

Beat the game on Hard. I completed most of the game content; pretty much everything except all of the collectibles. Hard made this game very difficult at first and I could barely survive, though as the game went on I found it easier. Used this weapon to great effect against some of the more difficult parts of the game. My other weapon was the sniper rifle, which was frequently used, regularly topped up with ammo and I never even considered the other options. My combat style was often to fly up to somewhere high (if possible) and snipe with this, the pistol and homing missiles. I never bothered to use any of the other deadly sin weapons.

I focused my upgrades on survival first though I eventually purchased everything that I deemed useful. I focused my power upgrades on super speed and flight for insane mobility. I actually died very few times in this game because at any point I could easily retreat. My preferred combat power was Aura, and I used both coldfire and vampire. I used Blast with stone element against flying enemies occasionally. I used Summon quite often; imp at first but I loved the tower summon and used it extensively when sniping from high places as a free way to deal cheap damage. I had a little bit of fun with the titan, but found the tower far more useful. Never really used stomp. I did not enjoy flying around collecting orbs to power up these abilities so my powers were not as good as they could have been; I instead focused on the specific ones that I used most.

This game was quite fun and with Hard difficulty was one of the more challenging GTA style games I have played. I enjoyed the novel enemy types and the tactics related to your weapons and powers. The high point of the game was definitely the Disney style musical; it makes this game worth playing all by itself and I highly recommend watching it on youtube if you will not play this game. The only real complaint I have about the game is how short it is, but it is fair considering it is more like a standalone expansion.
