Fully finished story:

  • Completed all stages
  • Defeated final boss and reached end credits.

Final thoughts: The biggest thing that kills the game fundamentally for me is the forced backtracking by locking progression behind exploration. Other Sonic titles reward exploration with red rings, chaos, etc, but they are totally optional in comparison to this game's blueprints / crystal shards. Add on top of the fact the levels are TOO long and the environments / music are BOTH uninspiring and bland, which are standout traits of... pretty much any other Sonic game. Not the mention the static "cutscenes" and the poor text UI makes this game feel even more soulless to me.

At least the game physics is actually fluid especially with the enerbeam ability to jump across gaps, but this is also the slowest-paced Sonic game I've ever played before.

In the end, I can sum this game up as a 2D Metroidvania collect-a-thon. Sadly it's just not what I look for in a Sonic title, and I found this game a chore to play instead.
