This review is for the Game Boy version

This is basically a port (of II and III from the NES) to the gameboy. While the color depth isn't quite there it has surprisingly good gameplay, and is much easier than either of the games it stem from. It also runs a bit better overall with less slowdown through the vast majority of the game. The music is decent and has audio recreated for the DMG sound hardware arranged from nes including level themes etc (so that's kinda neat to see alternate versions of the music) It's a fairly short game and a bit too easy (especially for Mega Man!). You have a lot of things to help you such as the iconic password system and unlimited continues to retry a level where you last ran out of lives. There are also a LOT of places to farm for 1 ups and health if you are so inclined. Bosses however are very simple with mechanical patterns. I was able to actually eliminate one or two with no damage my first attempt and i'm not a good MM player. I didn't even use the weapon power ups either with the exception of magnet man, that guy is dangerous! Also wiley. …

decent game nothing great, but it's still a lot better than the first 'un.

For a three hour or so game it was well worth playing to scratch that itch IMO. I hear the series isn't half bad on gameboy but never did explore it due to the difficult of the earlier titles in the main series (for nes) as well as the first one for the portable handheld platform was considerably underwhelming. i'd give it 3.5 out of four. it's only fault isn't the recycled content, but rather that it's just a bit short and easy.

(game for 1992)

Similar to first handheld one, this one adds sliding and energy tanks, making game bit easier. Every robot master gets his own stage, but wily only gets one. I found the music worse.
