Although it's obvious the makers of this game put some serious love into their project, SotS: The Pit just isn't quite interesting enough to put it in competition with some of the other free roguelikes out there. To its credit, it has solid sprite-based artwork, a decent soundtrack, and a research system that helps make even a failed run seem worthwhile as it unlocks new items for future attempts. That being said, the combat and exploration get repetitive fast, the multiple characters don't have all that much distinguishing them apart from different voice actors, the dungeon is MUCH too long, and gaining access to the crafting system that makes higher difficulties less impossible requires replaying the lower difficulties again and again to harvest recipes. While not a BAD game exactly, you can find better roguelikes elsewhere.
