My friends and I are always playing this when they come over, it is hands down one of the best party games out right now. Everyone loves Mario kart. I do wish for more courses and maybe a little more challenge? Sometimes the races can be quite easy. Other than that this game serves its purpose on being a fun and entertaining game you can play with others. Love it.

Junto al DLC este juego ha hecho muy complicado imaginarse un Mario Kart 9 que lo supere.
I had played Mario Kart 8 when it was released on Wii U and really enjoyed it, and I decided to finally crack down and play Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on the Switch around the time Nintendo announced Mario Kart World for the Switch 2. Right off the bat, in terms of the number of characters and levels, you couldn't ask for more then Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Not only does this have an absurd lineup of characters, but a ton of tracks, many of which are updated versions of tracks from the franchise's entire history. I feel like the Nintendo first-party games that came out of the Switch were often celebrating Nintendo's history and really going all-in with the possibility of their titles, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe certainly does this for the Mario Kart franchise.
I say all that and I truly enjoyed my time with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, for sure. But I think this game ratchets the difficulty up in a way that I've never seen happen in the Mario Kart franchise like this before. 50cc and 100cc? Sure, I'm having a lot of fun. 150cc? Grab your ass, because it's about to get rocked. The …

Grab your ass, because it's about to get rocked. The other racers are flawless, the number of items is absurd, and I felt like I was being lulled into a false sense of security with every race, doing fine, until someone would shell my ass at the last second, often making me restart an entire tour from the beginning. I must've tried to perfect a 150cc tour at least a dozen times, and after a while, I just had to give up. I also don't really care for the handling of weight, having to figure out which car, wheels, and parachute will help you best in a race. I dunno man, just let me race, and in the case of the 150cc tours, probably lose.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is a blast, until it wasn't for me. And as someone who has played this series my entire life, I was shocked by how hard I found the difficulty, and even before I got to the hardest level! I guess Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is everything for everyone, and if you want the challenge that 150cc and 200cc have to offer, be my guest, but I can't believe how much I struggled once this game got a bit more difficult.
To me Mario Kart 8 is the best Mario Kart. It's so good that Nintendo decided not to make an original Mario Kart for the Switch but just port the game over from the unsuccessful Wii U to the very successful Switch. The controls in Mario Kart 8 are much sleeker and easier to handle than Double Dash. I played the crap out of this game and it's good enough that my wife (who doesn't like video games) loves it too.
It's alright. Not one of the most fun Mario Kart games I've ever played. Gameplay can be hectic, sure. But somehow I don't remember any of the tracks aside from the Rainbow Road and of course the Waluigi tracks. I think it's just too smooth an experience and doesn't leave much to the imagination. The soundtrack and sound design didn't help either. If it's your favourite, that's cool. Have it as your favourite. I still give it four stars because it's still a quality Mario Kart.
I grew up on Mario Kart 64, and it probably ages me to say there was too much happening in MK8 for me. Felt like I was on an ADHD drug trip.
Graphics are good, gameplay is solid, online is smooth and playing with people is a blast. Game has tons of tracks, especially with the new expansion. Would like if they would take some time and think of a better track balancing mechanics other than the blue shell. The blue shell is iconic but just turns into a anti fun item. Overall two only problems I have with the game is; I wish they had better game modes, like maybe the dual mode from GameCube playable. Also, many of the items need a serious retooling to not just be fun police.
As someone who skipped every Mario Kart between this and 64, I'm left with a puzzling sensation. At what point exactly did this franchise lose it's magic? 64 comparatively felt like a weighty racing game where a single error could cost you a race, where power ups were used strategically, and the courses had to be committed to memory to come out on top of a circuit. Maybe I'm being dramatic and I sound super old, but to me now, it's just this numbing barrage of flashing lights, flipping upside down and all around, constant power ups flying around, aggressive rubber banding, courses that are pretty but visually overwhelming, annoying motion controls and auto-driving that are on by default... it's all just a lot. It's also probably just due to the fact that I was good at 64 and I SUCK at this one. It does seem like this franchise needs a serious back-to-basics approach for the next one... if there ever is one (the Switch version is one of the best selling video games of all time at the point so don't count on it.) Ah well, it's not like the game isn't any fun anymore and I'm …

I just feel like I got left out in the dark and when I came back in, the place had completely changed.
Read LessWhile I still prefer Mario Kart Wii, this game was enjoyable, and definitely more forgiving for that random friend who plays multiplayer with no prior experience. More playstyles seem viable, but I was so used to inside drift bikes on the Wii that I cannot use bikes in this game. The deluxe version did not add much to the Wii U version since I had the DLC tracks, but I would recommend buying it just for the ability to play on the go. Growing up as an only child with not many others in the neighborhood meant that racing games were one of the best entertainment values for me. If you enjoy playing against AI then you will get your money's worth with this game.
Bumped to 5 stars after more dlc and understanding that 200cc might be the most strategic improvement to the series ever, where maxing speed, hitting every boost pad, doing tricks off of every possible jump, and getting as many mini turbos as possible is now not always the optimal strategy on every track.
Just an amazing racing game. Really really darn good. Great for non-gamers.
The ultimate Mario Kart game. I cannot wait to see how they improve on this.
Double Dash has held it's place as my favourite Mario Kart for so long, until I got my hands on this. The gameplay is incredibly fluid and boasts a stacked roster with some new additions and some of the greatest tracks in the series. Whether it's the many grand prix cups to power though or the insane battle mode, my enjoyment from playing this never waned. This has become a favourite with my kids also so just another excuse for me to jump back in every once in a while.

The Mario Kart formula gets a little cleaner and crisper every time. Each new iteration has basically never been steps backward. And lore implications aside (Link, Isabelle, Inklings race karts?), this is another step forward. Anti-grav and the bumping that comes along with it add new fun decisions to the race. Sure, the blue shell is punishing. That doesn't change the grin on your face through each and every turn.
While I haven't quite unlocked everything in Mario Kart 8, I think it's time to mark it complete and write a review. The last few things will get unlocked as I continue to play multiplayer into the future. Mario Kart 8 is an interesting entry in the series. It's intended new feature is the anti-gravity driving, but given the way the camera angle stays oriented to the car it's hard to really feel the effect of it. It sadly just doesn't feel all that different.
What I think is truly the "new" feature is wonderful HD graphics for once in this series. It's just a beautiful game and I finally feel like I'm playing a modern Mario Kart for the first time in 7 or 8 years. The curated instant replay feature really does a wonderful job highlighting the beautiful visuals and it's a great addition to the series.
The racing feels great. Executing drifts is a pleasure and hitting a series of corners just right is incredibly gratifying. The track challenges ramp up really well, especially in 150cc on the new course cups. Special Cup is a true challenge that makes it so you feel like you can learn …

The racing feels great. Executing drifts is a pleasure and hitting a series of corners just right is incredibly gratifying. The track challenges ramp up really well, especially in 150cc on the new course cups. Special Cup is a true challenge that makes it so you feel like you can learn the courses and improve. The retro courses are varied and a bit too focused on N64 courses for my liking, but the courses from Super Mario Kart and Super Circuit are awesome to play in this new style.
The blue shell makes it's return, which is super lame, though at least it stays on the course possibly hitting other racers for most of the time on it's way to first place. The Piranha Plant is a wonderful addition and I hope it sticks around. Other items aren't all that new and exciting, but they are still classic Mario Kart.
My main problem with the game is that it seems to lack some polish in the overall package. Why isn't there a settings menu to tweak controls or adjust music and/or sound effects volume? Why can't I easily view and challenge the time trial ghosts of people on my friends list? Why aren't there any stats about my overall win/loss record? Who knows...
I'm really happy I bought Mario Kart 8 and I love playing it multiplayer. Here's to hoping we'll see some DLC in the future to add new courses and maybe some improved features.
9/10 Jeu de zinzin, joué avec un nombre de personnes incalculable !
i finally got mk8dx... why the fuck is every character, track, and mode unlocked from the start? whatever happened to the good old sense of single player progression? -_- i will always stand by the notion that having everything right off the bat is overwhelming and cheapens the experience.
the core gameplay is obviously fun. i mean it's mario kart. but man, the psychological effect of knowing i have every track and character at my disposal after zero time even spent in the game, it really makes everything feel significantly less focused / more pointless than it would've been otherwise
I wonder what's next in store for the Mario Kart franchise. I've been getting back into Mario Kart 8 Deluxe with my daughter as she's finally at the age to play (the steering assist really helps too) and it's such a perfect game, I can't imagine what Mario Kart 9 could even do that would keep it fresh.
I went back and played Super Mario Kart for a little nostalgia dose and it's incredible to see how far the series has come. But what could be next?
I literally could not have been any luckier getting an unpatched Switch last month.
We should hold a Grouvee convention, have everyone come together, chill and play games. We pick a different city around the world each year. I nominate Chicago for the inaugural year because I miss Chicago. Everyone can crash at @georgeypoorgey's house! I'll nominate Toronto for one of the subsequent years and you can all come crash on my couch!
Absolutely beautiful game! The visuals are stunning. The controls are so good and the character and course roster is monstrous. The DLC was so much fun to add. Lost many friends to this game as well. Best course is Dolphin Shoals! The music in this game is 10/10.
Really like the Wave 6 Cups! Wii Rainbow Road is great, and I love the new track, Piranha Plant Cove!
I tried out Peachette and Diddy. Both handle nicely, but I'm still gonna stick with my boi Wiggler on the Wigglermobile.
Well, I finally played Wiggle on a Wiggle. I think I'll main Kamek on a Wiggle though.
And it was fun playing the London stage for the first time after being there for a few days. "Oh look at that! We were there!"
I tried Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for the first time earlier today, and I had TOO much fun playing it. still, I'm not going to buy the current switch model unless something really changes my mind to buy it as a fully all in one console, and that's not going to happen.
