Creating a compelling fantasy world/game without using the tolkein races has really paid off and created a unique setting. Play the game on easy for your first run to just enjoy the story. Come back again for a game that will really flex the strategy part of your gaming brain. Without spoiling anything you will want at least 2 completed playthroughs to take into the sequel. 4/5 because I am not reviewing this in a vacuum, The Banner Saga 2 is even better.

Saw a playthrough to its (sad) ending. I know there are better endings out there and I WILL come back to get them. What a good game. A simple story with very little padding that's incredibly effective nevertheless. I felt so attached to everyone even after only ten hours.

A steam sale reminded me that I've had The Banner Saga in my mind for a long time mainly because of the artstyle. But now that I'm (still) on a Norse mythology kick (2 books and a half, a podcast, and finishing Hellblade) it may be time to pick it up.
Any thoughts on it?

Everyone tells me how amazing this game is, but I played it for almost a half hour and didn't see a single woman. My friends claim that there are a few female characters who are "worth the wait" but uh. I don't wanna spend hours of my life on a game that doesn't even acknowledge my existence?

Completed on Hard difficulty.
Great art style, music, combat, choices and story/atmosphere. My only complaint is that the game is a bit short (20 or so hours in the hardest difficulty).
Can't wait for part 2.
