Creepy, OK story, works well on Steam Deck

In the genre of pixel puzzle point & click cosmic horror games set in Victorian/Edwardian Britain, this one is pretty good but still not as good as Thomasina Bateman's attempt to excavate Hob's Barrow, in my opinion. In the genre of pixel puzzle point & click cosmic horror games set in Victorian/Edwardian Britain, this one is pretty good but still not as good as Thomasina Bateman's attempt to excavate Hob's Barrow, in my opinion. The story is definitely creepy and had moments where my hair stood on end but its let down somewhat by being so surreal that the horror feels less present. Also, as pixel games go, this one is pretty heavily pixelated for a 2014 game.

It worked well on my Deck. It did crash twice but not in the same place.

It's certainly worth picking up if you want a creepy horror puzzle story.

A nice little puzzle game. Relatively short, but an intriguing plot. Definitely has those darker horror elements, although I wouldn't say it was all that scary. Can't wait to play the second one.

Moody and horrific with solid puzzling

Update 12/26/25:

Just did another replay, and… it’s decent. Honestly on a second playthrough the story doesn’t hit as hard and the gameplay especially is pretty mediocre. Not any amazing puzzles or anything. Kind of sparse as far as gameplay goes. Still a decent and unique point and click with a haunting story - just not as good as games …

Just replayed this, and it is so impressive how this game sets up a brooding atmosphere with genuine scares using pixel art. It is a very cozy game to play with many moments of surprise and an intriguing story.

I did get a bit lost on the story in the second half, but after playing Blasphemous, I was already expecting vague thematic writing from the developers. That would be my only criticism, because the story was so captivating at the beginning, I really wanted to see where it was going rather than getting lost in Lynchian abstraction.

Still, it retained great puzzles, with only a couple moon logic moments. The art is amazing, only overshadowed by Blasphemous. And the atmosphere is expertly crafted, from beginning to end.

I really enjoyed playing this when I started last year, but I haven't decided if I will go back to it and play the newer chapters.

SPOILER ALERT:

I have reached a point were you find an eye-less black cat behind a concrete and brick wall. I don't know is this is a reference to "The Black Cat" by Edgar Allan Poe, but i thought is was both cool and creepy.
