Decent HOG

Overview

A solid Hidden Object Game that focuses more on the story and less on Hidden Object Puzzles.

Positive (good features)

  • Fairly decent story that does not involve magic or kidnapping (+).
  • The story pulls off a decent twist.
  • It's usually logical what you have to do next without checking the map for available actions (+).
  • Achievements that motivate you not to use hints/skipping.
  • Steam achievements.
  • There's a bunch of different bonus objects to find.
  • German names are correctly pronounced.

Neutral (average/expected features)

  • Decent music.
  • Fair mix of puzzles with only a few overused/annoying ones.
  • The voice-acting is ok.
  • Little to no illogical solutions.

Negative (bad features)

  • Poor graphics, especially for something published by Artifex Mundi (-).
  • Annoying wobbly effect on characters to simulate movement.
  • A bit on the short side, i finished it in less than 2,5 hours without hints/skipping.
  • The bad guy has red eyes.
  • There's a German psychiatrist.
  • Your character casually hands over her gun to a triple murderer.
  • Virtually no bonus features.

Conclusion

Aside from the dated graphics the game has few flaws. It's nice to have a HOG where the story isn't an afterthought. Gameplay overall has a nice flow to it.
