Spooktober 2023 Game #4
This is my first time playing a hidden object game. It felt largely similar to Myst or a point and click adventure, with a bit of extra pixel hunting. All and all, I don't mind the style, though it's not something I'd want to play all the time.
As far as Enigmatis itself goes, I was surprised by how compelling it was. I played all 4 hours today, in two sessions. I usually break point and click games up more, so clearly I was enjoying myself. You play as a detective in a rural town trying to solve a murder. Of course, something went wrong and you start the game waking up with amnesia in the town, trying to piece back together what you were doing. Needless to say, the plot is a bit cliché. Luckily, that doesn't stop it from being enjoyable.
Piecing back together what happened to this point and solving the murder involves a variety of fairly simple puzzles, hidden object finding, and piecing together clues on your evidence board. It's all fairly straightforward, but it actually does a good job of making you feel like a detective. There are hint systems to …

Piecing back together what happened to this point and solving the murder involves a variety of fairly simple puzzles, hidden object finding, and piecing together clues on your evidence board. It's all fairly straightforward, but it actually does a good job of making you feel like a detective. There are hint systems to prevent you from getting stuck, so you don't have to wander around wondering where you find the hacksaw you need to get into the next area unless you want to, nor do you have to worry about pixel hunting until your eyes bleed in the hidden object sections.
The art and music were actually quite well done, making Maple Creek an enjoyably creepy place to explore. My only complaint with the production values is that the voice acting is hilariously bad -- I was legitimately wondering in a couple of places if I was listening to old text to speech. Of course, I find that sort of campiness to have its own charm, so it wasn't that detrimental to my experience.
Overall, Enigmatis was a solid experience that has me curious to see where the sequels go, though I'll probably wait until they're on sale to find out.
A very nicely done hidden object (puzzle-adventure) game.
I've always found hidden object games to be quite relaxing experience and there's just something about finding those hidden objects I find really entertaining and this game scratches that itch very well.
It also comes with puzzle-adventure aspect which I was not aware while starting the game but proved to be quite cool.
The story is really well done - you wake up after a crash and dive into solving a resident evil like story by solving puzzles, finding objects and what not. The atmosphere reminds me a lot of resident evil 4 - which was unexpected but quite welcome. The story is interesting and well structured.
Graphics are really nice looking and fitting the scenery. Voice acting and sound design add to the overall experience.
The amount of hidden object parts might have been to few for my liking but it didn't stop me from really liking this game.
Overall - if you're into the genre - I can highly recommend this. If not - I still would suggest to try it out - as it's a really good representative of the genre.
Prepare for a Resident Evil 4 hidden object game.
This game was a joy to play. Creepy as shit, with some plot twists, lots of fun puzzles, and you can feed a dog. What else can you ask for?
Very well done. The story was engaging; it kept me playing for hours just because I wanted to know what was going on. The puzzles had a good difficulty level. I do skip the ones with sliding chards, because my brain can't work when I see them. I played on normal, and the hint system was very good at letting me know where to go next. If you don't like hand holding, then I would recommend the expert difficulty.
The game looked polished and well put together. The only thing that let me down was the voice acting. I don't understand why we can't get a hidden object game with good voice acting. It shouldn't be that hard, right?
Overall, super entertaining! I think I will play the rest of the series.
Very good hidden object game. There's a story, a variety of puzzles, plus if you can't find an item you can opt to do a mah jong tile matching puzzle instead. Image quality is nice and clear.
Completed. I liked it. Best story so far for puzzle games I played. Bit scary, but not too much. Interesting puzzles and other things. Without using hints - not too hard, not very easy. Bonus chapter was nice addition to this game. Minuses - encountered some bugs. At one puzzle all actions were frozen. Needed to skip this one. In this game are many places. Without using hints sometimes it was bit too much backtracking. For example, you done all you can in one room. After some actions new item hunting option can appear in this place and it is not often clear, that it happens. So, when you stuck, you need check again all places you visited before. Near the end some puzzles skipped automatically. Did not understand, it was my fault or bug.
