I still really enjoy the core battling and party mechanics in this game, but the more I play of it, the more my interest in everything around those mechanics wanes. I have to agree with some of what's been written in a few reviews / updates here. Story / characters aren't that engaging outside a handful of good moments, odd pace overall to the story / missions / challenge curve, annoying overworld traversal and dungeon traversal that's not much better. Very heavy on side quests and combat encounters everywhere, but without great stuff to string it all together and keep my interest. I see a world where I finish it anyway since it's still fun a lot of the time, but it also feels like I've already had my fun to an extent. I expected to like a mainline SMT game even more than some of the spinoffs, but maybe not, or maybe not this specific one. At least need a break from it I guess.

Combat and character/party progression is very good in this one. Dungeon areas are fine for me too, though the game would greatly benefit from proper dual-stick controls. Hopefully stuff like the high encounter rate and a bit of odd pacing/story beats don’t eat away at my patience too much—we shall see, 5-ish hours in I expect it will be fine.

The more I think back on this game, which I played a few years back, the more I want to revisit it. I'm working my way through the soundtrack while I work, and almost every song is memorable or fits the mood in such a perfect way. It hypes me up more than anything, such a great, atmospheric game.

My second favorite SMT game (Grange Journey Redux being my top for now). The story is intriguing with dual worlds, the demons are exciting, the battles are awesome, I really enjoyed it all.

❶ This game wasn't super focused on individual characters imo, but my favorite would probably be either myself Flynn or Burroughs who was always there for those tutorials.

❷ It was amazing at the time to see everything more modern and the story to have vibes of a Fire Emblem plot. I love the idea of choosing neutral, law, and chaos.

❸ Gameplay was on point with its modern adaptation and the story & choices felt meaningful to me. The world building and feeling of the despair with the artstyle was something breathtaking.

I'm on the Chaos route at the gate just before the final boss, but my team and I are all weak to Wind/Force attacks. Guess what the final boss does?

Played on loan from my coworker using her DS. I could not really get into this game. I did get to level 4 or 5 of the dungeon but I got tired of playing and wanted to try something else. The game is annoyingly difficult, mainly due to the piss poor money and xp drops from enemies. I constantly felt under leveled and under equipped but the sheer amount of time that would be needed to correct that was a huge turn off.

I might give it a go again if I ever get a DS.

Just finished my Chaos playthrough, now to reincarnate for the 3rd time and do the Law route. In the interest of expediting this, decided to NG+ with my pre-existing stats and levels. Time to roll into Naraku as lv 95 :>

  • Got tired of the final boss (Lucifer) bullshit after getting my ass kicked for the X time.

  • Lower the difficulty.

  • Finally defeated Lucifer. "Burn in heaven you asshole!"

  • Get the bad ending

  • Google how to get the good ending.

  • I have to replay the game again and do esoteric quests while managing an invisible counter and fighting again Lucifer and …

Don't you hate when you're aiming for an specific route/ending in a game and you accidentally choose the other one that goes against all your deepest values and beliefs?

I just allied with the "good ones" in this game and cannot go back to change it. I hate everything right now.

"I'm tired of labyrinths in Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis. Let's go back to Shin Megami Tensei IV. I shouldn't have abandoned it in the first place"

(Boots the game)

(the character is lost in a labyrinth)

OH FOR FUCKS SAKE!

5 hours into this game and so far the message has been "Poor people shouldn't read because that leads to rebellion against rich people and get posessed by demons and then die".

No, really.

Several hours past my previous update and I can fairly say I am just not enjoying the game. I love hard games, but cheap difficulty combined with the need to explore (causing you to run into lots of 'cheap' fights) just isn't all that enoyable.

I'm almost 20 hours in and for some reason the game just isn't holding my attention. I try very hard to focus on a single game at a time but for all the awesome this seems to be I keep wandering away from it.
