The third Far Cry entry is a gripping open-world first-person shooter that stands out for its lush tropical setting, intense action, and surprisingly strong narrative, especially for the standards of shooters at the time, not to mention also compared to Far Cry itself up until that point. The MC is called Jason Brody, a tourist stranded on a lawless island, forced to evolve from a scared outsider into a ruthless survivor.

The game's biggest strength lies in its freedom, whether you approach combat with stealth or all guns blazing, and this game is one of those that started this trend at the time, the illusion of freedom hiding behind two options. The sandbox mechanics are incredibly satisfying, with the hunting challenges being a standout in my opinion.

Its villain, Vaas Montenegro, remains iconic thanks to a chilling performance and memorable writing, even for today's standards, one of the best villains of all time in gaming history. Though some mission pacing issues and repetitive side content show their age, Far Cry 3 still holds up as a defining entry in the series and a classic of its generation, it is one of the best shooters of all time, I highly recommend not skipping this one.

You play as Jason Brody, a spoilt rich kid, who quickly finds himself fighting for his and his friends' survival when their dream holiday turns into a nightmare.
If you have played any Ubisoft open world games before, then the gameplay loop will be familiar to you: unlock map details, complete side quests to level up and upgrade your equipment before tackling the main storyline.
Far Cry 3, despite some technical hitches, is a fun, crazy game that doesn't outstay its welcome., offering an explosive, off the wall adventure for gamers who just want to have some fun.

Buuuuut I gotta say, the story rubbed me the wrong way at certain points. It is pure distilled white savior fantasy in video game format, which is not this game's fault exclusively but it is not that old to attach the "a product of their time" category. It is specialy evident when Ubisoft had the "tact" (or commercially safe route) to not involve actual peoples in the story but to create an amalgam of polinesian cultures in the form of the Rakyat. They knew what they were doing, I see you.

Man, the mechanics of these video game are fantastic. It is an amazing FPS and the characters are really great. The pace of the story is entertaining and you never feel like grinding, it reaches this sweet spot between meaningful grinding and story progression that games at the time had real troubles with. I only wish Ubisoft had a little more gall and tact with the story as other developers have had since. I game like this with a story like, I don't know, Spec Ops: The Line? Instant. All-Time. Classic. No notes.

Far cry 3 after completing it 100%

I enjoyed most of the game with its chaotic AI behavior, and the phenomenal surroundings, and atmospheric vibe this game gives.

WARNING! Story Spoiler

Long story short. you and your friends decide to go on a crazy trip to do extreme sports which leads you and your friends to get captured by Vass and his men. A crime organization lead by Hoyt Volker where they sell people as slaves to cartels to do their dirty jobs for them. You as Jason Brody and your brother Grant try to escape Vaas and his men, which ends up in a tragic way where your brother Grant gets shot, followed by you in a failed attempt to save him. this is where Vaas mocks you and gives you a head start to run away. You managed to escape the camp and get saved by Dennis Rogers. so this is where you start your mission in hopes to find your friends and save them.

The rest is history... And know that if I keep going on and on with this review, I won't shut up lol. I really liked this game. Easily 9/10 With how old this game is. This is my first ever review so go easy on me. I've never studied game journalism nor looked it up. so yeah, Hope this reaches anyone.

The definition of a good game

As one of the best games of it's series, Far Cry 3 is a really great genre-defining open world FPS adventure. As one of the best games of it's series, Far Cry 3 is a really great genre-defining open world FPS adventure. The tropical environment is beautiful, Vaas is the definition of a characteristic antigonist and the gameplay is really enjoyable. The story has it's highs and lows, I just wish the second island part wasn't so rushed, because Hoyt didn't have any time or opportunity to be scarier than Vaas, which is an interesting game design choice.

Since this is pretty much a reboot entry of the series, a few issues appear here and there, but that's usually the case with entries like this. Most of these nuances are polished to perfection in Far Cry 4, so they learnt from the mistakes.

Nitpicking aside, it's is a must play for anyone who likes these kind of games, and it's a much better entry point to the franchise than Far Cry 1. You can spend countless hours exploring caves to collect ancient relics, climbing really badly maintained radio towers, taking over enemy outposts stealthily or going in guns-blazing, hunting Komodo Dragons, burning drug-field listening to Skrillex or just doing whatever the hell you want, because you can.

Gameplay: 3/5 I really like that for such a large open world it was not cluttered with repetitive tasks. the lack of side objectives kept the story going which I felt was one of the strongest aspects of the game. Definitely a dated shooter mechanic wise, but as your skill increases and you get better guns it negates the controls quite a bit.

Story: 3.5/5 Crazy and I mean crazy characters. I liked the development of the main character. The plot progresses a little bit slow in the middle, but it has mostly good pacing.

Presentation: 3.5/5 Intense music at just the right times. fantastic voice acting and character performances. The script shined at times and then at others was just very repetitive and irritating. Do you want to know the definition of insanity? Hearing the f word being yelled at you over and over again just before you kill your enemies. Just my little reference to the game for those who have played it

I would moderately recommend to fans of FPS RPG style games.

However, I expected more given that Skyrim came out before this and still managed to triple the content and more especially, enemy variety (killing the same 3 types of enemies over and over can get boring). Maybe it is unfair to compare the two but oh well. I liked the characters a lot, especially the villains, and the gameplay was beyond fun and smooth. I don't know if the rest of the games in the series are as fun but I will be checking them out in the near future. enter image description here

I honestly liked this game more than I would like and more than I thought I would like. We're talking about Ubisoft, that has this terrible history of buggy and ridiculously repetitive games. Recently I got to play Far Cry 5 on PS4, but stopped after I realized I was doing the same thing for almost 10 hours. I could have cursed Ubi so much at this time, but I was playing Far Cry 5.

Anyway, like every good gamer who has never played FC3 and decided to give a try to the game, what most hype us is that EVERYONE likes Vaas (one of the game's villains). And does he attempt to the expectations? Well... Yes and no. I quite liked him, shall we say. There are MUCH better villains out there, but it still has its charm. It's the stereotype of someone insane and very psychotic (reminds me Joker a little), who is always making jokes, very tense dialogues and great satisfaction in torturing people. I think so, is an antagonist to be remembered but not that much.

Now the other aspects of the game that I found interesting (Remembering that my analyzes don't focus on saying something negative of the game, unless it is very obvious. But what I noticed that I think is relevant enough for you to know. And if there is something here that you want to know and I didn't say, it is probably something that the game doesn't do very well because I didn't even realize it, or some very specific detail): I LOVED those cutscenes with only texts of Alice in Wonderland floating on the screen (even though they're most phrases that are only in the books, not in the movie); I found super fun the main missions and you know what? It does NOT have a bad mission; the control points, which in this case are areas dominated by the Pirates (the villain army of the game) are very cool to master. I got to do this with every single one in the game because it was incredibly fun. You must have some notions of strategy and etc, very cool; the open world of the game is GIGANTIC, of course, much of it is empty and doesn't have many things to do but it's not as empty as Mass Effect Andromeda or Assassin's Creed Syndicate, for example. I did all the secondary missions (mainly for the money anyway) but they are still nice. It's nothing amazing like The Witcher or something like it but you can have fun.

Anyway, these were the top topics I noticed in the game and I think it's worth it to you guys know it. If you have any questions about anything, just ask. Conclusion: Far Cry 3 is a fun game (the best of the franchise for sure), has a memorable villain, VERY good missions and a great variety to do when you're not in progressing the history. It's worth playing.
