I really enjoyed this game. Despite the mechanics being the same for Far Cry 3-6, I Felt that this was a good start to the franchise. the Story is a good one and opens up for you to relate and understand the villain's points of view. I give it 4 stars out of 5 because it was a fun game, but I don't think it has much reply value due to it being a franchise game. If you are looking to play it for the first time, I would rent it from the library if you can if not buying it is not a bad deal, just be prepared to put about 30 hours into it to move on to the next game. Worth playing once.

It’s astounding that even when firing a silenced weapon from complete cover, enemies make a beeline directly toward you. Even enemies who find dead bodies are apparently versed in blood spatter analysis and can pinpoint exactly which direction you are sniping from. I’ve seen enemies find a body, turn and run toward where I am in cover countless times.

Replaying this after playing the three most recent games in the series is an interesting experience. It’s remarkable that much of the game doesn’t feel quite that dated and has been maintained in later instalments. But it’s also interesting to note the elements that have mercifully been dropped, fixed or replaced.

I forgot how abjectly vicious wild animals are in this game. I'm glad they toned that down for the sequels. I keep having to craft animal repellent just to make sure I don't get surprise mauled. I feel like if you have to include a device that repels animals, maybe you set the value for animal aggression and provocation too high in the code.

And I forgot, don't accidentally skin an animal when others are still around. The animation can't be cancelled and you'll me mauled to death all while calmly trying to gather resources.

It’s astounding that while Far Cry3: Classic Edition has fewer jaggies along some edges, it doesn’t look much better than the original 360 version running on Series X. On top of that 360 version is frame boosted to 60fps while Far Cry 3: Classic Edition is locked at 30fps, ironically making the older version of the game more visually satisfying to play. Without question I’ll pick frame rate over resolution, but the compromise here is limited. Love these frame boosted 360 games on Series X.

This is the most pathetic Audio Menu i've ever seen in a AAA game.

It's even worse because it's a stealth-heavy game that loves to play loud, obnoxious music that includes distracting sounds (engines, shots).

how embarassing

Me and other GamerFocus' writers choose our favorite open worlds in video games (not open world video games, open worlds IN video games) and tried to explain why we liked it so much.

We choose

  • Kamurocho, Yakuza
  • Los Santos, GTA V

Played this when it first released back in the day and decided to finally get round to play the classic edition. Vaz is great and the story’s not bad but gunplay is atrocious and combat on a whole is bad. How I ever enjoyed this is a mystery. I guess teenage me was easy to please.

mostly had a really good time with this! my main issue is that a lot of the story mission seem VERY poorly balanced around harder difficulties. in story-based turret or vehicle segments, i'd frequently drive through areas where if I didn't headshot every single person that spawned before I passed them, they'd kill me in one or two shots to the back after i'd driven by and could no longer see them. i 100%d the game on the hardest difficulty out of stubbornness, but i've learned my lesson and am playing far cry 5 on a normal difficulty now, as it seems to have the same difficulty balancing issues to a lesser degree.

other than that, i had a great time. the island is beautiful and tons of fun to explore, the guns feel great, and the animal skin crafting system was a blast to progress through.
