So far I’m ashamed to say that I think it might actually be a more enjoyable and mechanically better designed game than Far Cry 6. Things are still early but I can already tell there’s a hell of a lot less bloat, and the perk and upgrade systems are far more streamlined and appealing. As much as I like Dani Rojas, it’s nice to have a protagonist who isn’t telling me everything I should be doing moment to moment. True, the politics in both are milquetoast at best with Ubi’s tendency to play both sides of any potential political argument. But at least at the mechanical level Far Cry 5 feels quite lean compared to Far Cry 6, a game that introduces too many redundant or superfluous systems. Plus I don’t have to micromanage four gear load-outs just to keep up with the various enemy types not to mention no need to manage and collect about fifteen various currencies all just to upgrade my skills and gear. And god bless the fact that skills and perks are not clothing dependant.
