The first 5-6 hrs in "Falls End" was lit.

The map was excellent, with lots to do, festival events, and side quests to collect bull balls. But after that everything was ty[ical Ubisoft reuse. watching the NPCs instantly ruins the immersion. Our teammates have 1-2 good dialogues but that's it. 2nd and third map was a waste of time.

I am painfully aware of the hypocrisy of the following after my last Far Cry 6 post, but something possessed me to start Far Cry 5. So far I’m ashamed to say that I think it might actually be a more enjoyable and mechanically better designed game than Far Cry 6. Things are still early but I can already tell there’s a hell of a lot less bloat, and the perk and upgrade systems are far more streamlined and appealing. As much as I like Dani Rojas, it’s nice to have a protagonist who isn’t telling me everything I should be doing moment to moment. True, the politics in both are milquetoast at best with Ubi’s tendency to play both sides of any potential political argument. But at least at the mechanical level Far Cry 5 feels quite lean compared to Far Cry 6, a game that introduces too many redundant or superfluous systems. Plus I don’t have to micromanage four gear load-outs just to keep up with the various enemy types not to mention no need to manage and collect about fifteen various currencies all just to upgrade my skills and gear. And god bless the fact that skills and perks are not clothing dependant.

Some thoughts after 100% Achievement completion and intentions to complete everything in game:

Brilliant for what it is. Falters in the typical Ubisoft ways. Watered down/somewhat feels plastic. Fails to really draw any line in the sand or make a statement, which may actually be what makes me want to forgive all of the mistakes or elements that didn't quite land correctly.

100% fun, thought provoking without telling you what exactly it is that you should think. Great updates to the Far Cry formula here really make it worth playing. It runs the risk of making open worlds TOO open, but I am not complaining. Perfect amount of struggle in progression while rewarding you with plenty of fun. Getting around and interacting with the world is a breeze without feeling cheap or too easy.

Story is one of the best in the series yet, and is particularly relevant to this moment in human history and social development as a whole (not just for Americans)

Plot has plenty of insane, over the top, B Action movie moments, but the more I played the more I felt "this is actually very plausible, things like this happen world wide all the time, and only seemingly to a lesser degree"

Would love to see Far Cry 4 (my favorite, for the setting) get a refresh using some newer systems and quality of life updates as seen here in FC5. Highly looking forward to playing FC5 New Dawn and Far Cry 6.

Ubisoft, I don't like you, but I keep buying many of your games, and I'm starting to think that Far Cry is my favorite franchise among them.

First played 2020 (Age 15) 1 Playthrough (Easy 0, Medium 1, Hard 0, Very Hard 0) After around 35+ hours of gameplay i lost my saves and then proceeded to watch someone play the remainder of what i missed

Either way, gameplay wise it was a good time, if not tiresome by the end. With a buddy there's a solid 20 hours of honest-to-god fun in here, you just need to be able to look past the usual Ubisoft bullshit. As a singleplayer game you are better off with something more along the lines of Watch Dogs 2 or just replaying Far Cry 3

You know what? My buddy and I started this up last night and we played for 5 hours without blinking. Far Cry has always been ya know... Fine but these opening hours have been awesome. Goes to show how more fun a game becomes when it's played with one of your best friends.

too dark for my liking, but looked great. as usual, ubisoft puts too much stuff into their games that are the same things; fetch quests, boxes with what ever unimportant loot, but the story was interesting.

Kinda enjoyable. Kinda messy. I mean they removed everything i liked from previous Far Cry games. They tried to change things, i see and i respect that but not the way i would like to.

Kinda enjoyable. Kinda messy. I mean they removed everything i liked from previous Far Cry games. They tried to change things, i see and i respect that but not the way i would like to.

-AI is terrible. Changing difficulty to hard doesn't make enemies smarter, only causes ridiculous deaths.

-Atmosphere is great. Graphics are really cool. And the game is well optimized for a Ubi game.

-Not many customization options, there are some but not enough, all similar. And you need to purchase every addition again and again. Looting doesn't give any rewards except money so you can't craft things like you did on previous games.

-Unlikeable characters. Either friends or enemies, they just make no sense. Yeah religious cultists with no solid background, how imaginative.

-Endings are sh.tty. Game feels so rushed. And i really did tens of side missions. Travelled a lot. Discovered new areas. Didn't do any fishing tho. But took me 12 hours to complete the main game.

-Side missions only gives you money and few other stuff, weakens the enemy's affect on the territory. But you can't see any changes over the world. Worse than Skyrim lol.

Main game was so bad, i couldn't find the courage to play DLCs. They seem fun but whatever. Maybe in future i'll give it an another go.

Unpopular opinion: The best Far Cry to date

Gameplay - More fun than previous installments, lots of activities and ways to traverse the land. Could have had more weapons but it's still quite a good range of them. Gameplay - More fun than previous installments, lots of activities and ways to traverse the land. Could have had more weapons but it's still quite a good range of them. It's not just about liberating outposts and going up towers. There are tons of sidequests, some good and some worse. Certainly more interesting sidequests than a game such as AC Odyssey but not quite at Witcher 3 levels. The perk tree could have been way better though, not many good options there imo. Kind of tired of the "tank" enemies that are just bullet sponges, otherwise the enemy variety was good.

Graphics and environment - Really good. Imagine the northern part of GTA V but MUCH bigger. Also got some Fallout 4 vibes in some locations. Game looks really nice.

Music - The best yet, lots of classics timed perfectly in different places throughout the game.

Characters - There are MANY named characters in this game, and lots of companions. Both characters and companions are written well, even without speech options I felt like the companions are similar to the ones in The Outer Worlds, having some commentary on the world, your choices and other companions. Characters in the story were well written. With the exception of John and Jacob seed, which brings me to the story section

Story - You can kind of choose which part of the story to see first, but I went with John then Jacob then Faith. John and Jacob were both cliche characters, John was like a mini Joseph and Jacob the tough army guy. Literally everything relating to them was bad, from the moments you get knocked unconscious out of nowhere (several times mind you), listening to their monologues, to their boss fights. I was SO happy to be done with them when I got to Faith's part of the story. Here is where it kicks up a notch and you start to understand things and see how interesting the story is. The endings are certainly some of the most memorable of all the Far Cry games.

Technical - Characters get glitched a lot, especially around water and sometimes in doorways. I had one crash and some parts where things went really slow. Other than that, no problems. Game saves a lot so you don't need to worry about that.

Solid 8/10. Not the best game ever, but the best Far Cry.

I have a serious question, and this might sound dumb but just bear with me - do the far cry games even need an overarching story at all?

It's Jonestown all over again

Pros:

  • Shooting is still good
  • No need to hunt
  • No towers (ok, there are a few, but that's it)
  • Ending: unfortunately it was spoiled to me, but it was still super grim and dark, and I totally liked it

Cons:

  • Main character being captured like 9 times over the course of the game. I understand that's their way to solve …

Cons:

  • Main character being captured like 9 times over the course of the game. I understand that's their way to solve the problem of having access to the entire map at once, but still. I thought sneaking and overhearing things was a bad plot, but this is even worse
  • Not enough guns. Far Cry 4 had much more variety, and much more interesting firearms. Here, enemies drop only 4 types of guns, 2 of which are M4 variations. And for some reason stashes also contain only these boring ones.

What a lot of people miss about the narrative - it's not about alt-right. "Project at Eden's Gate" is based on "Peoples Temple Agricultural Project", aka Johnstown, aka "Drinking the Kool Aid". It's apostolic socialism. Notice how they never use the US flag, but the "prepers" do?

Pretty fun.

Allright, another credit scrolled! I found the game to be fun but the setting was a little repetitive. Still, I enjoyed my time in Far Cry 5!

Better than FarCry 4, no more tower climbing is a fresh change but reeeeealllly hate the forced story progression... in an OPEN WORLD game.

I hate timed missions, and the continual recurrence of Jacob's timed missions is enough for me to take a break from Far Cry 5.

i don't understand the mixed reception this got; the side missions are varied and almost always a ton of fun, the game looks absolutely GORGEOUS, and there's a lot of silly open-world fun to be had.
