Overview

Alex Hunter is a weak offering in a genre with plenty of superior alternatives.

Positive

  • Nice music.
  • Extra symbols to find in locations.
  • Fairly long for a Hidden Object Game (4+ hours).

Neutral

  • Map travel.
  • Available actions indicated on map.
  • Passable graphics.
  • Passable videoclips.
  • In-game achievements.
  • Interactive objects in Hidden Object Puzzles
  • Functional hints/puzzle skipping system.

Negative

  • The worst puzzles i've ever seen in a HOG. I skipped about half of them.
  • Objects in HOPs are sometimes unresponsive when clicked.
  • Interactive objects in HOPs are rarely logical and overly hard to find.
  • A number of item interactions are illogical (opening a drawer with a machete).
  • Some items are used as keys despite not looking like keys.
  • It lacks Steam achievements that might motivate you not to use hints.
  • Too many 'relief keys'.
  • Too many 'reproduce symbols from a note' "puzzles".
  • Overly flimsy story even by the low, low standards of HOGs.

Conclusion

Aside from it's length, Alex Hunter scores average marks for most features. It's terrible puzzles and quantity-over-quality approach prevent a recommendation.
