Wow... The amount of quality of life stuff they added in this hack 'n slash RPG... Like, how have we went from this, to every diablo clone after? The first two obvious improvements to this genre would be: you can make your character walk through the map open, not every diablo clone allows a fully interactive map, it really does help with its unique tilted camera angle too also, which is fine, I get it, that's what happens when you have a fully 3D isometric game without a fixed camera.
The second is: you can REALISTICALLY DRINK YOUR HEALTH POTION, YOU DON'T DRINK ALL OF IT, YOU JUST DRINK SOME OF IT. That is insane! The logic incorporated into how much of a health potion you drink! It only uses as much as you need to heal. There are many other quality of life improvements thrown around there that I wouldn't wanna spoil.
Another quality of this game is: It is so smooth to get into! It might get a little hard to install it if you aren't going by the GOG way, by then you gotta install like a CD mounting emulator like ImgDrive to even install it, and …

Another quality of this game is: It is so smooth to get into! It might get a little hard to install it if you aren't going by the GOG way, by then you gotta install like a CD mounting emulator like ImgDrive to even install it, and you need to edit the .ini file in the documents folder (it's very easy to edit it) so you can have a widescreen game, but after that it runs like a charm (some forced choppy framerate animations will not be removed though, that's just a core part of the game), and I don't mean smooth as in framerate, i just mean a smooth experience as a whole, this is a no nonsense, straight to the point, enveloping world with simple but realistic goals for a common person in the middle of an adventure plot.
Game dialog is voice acted very nicely and kept short and sweet, almost feels like a good JRPG with just one basic dialog box. The world isn't very complex, in fact it is just really dungeons and dragons world but without the license, what makes the world special is how you breathe into it, the way the forests and towns feel alive even if simple, the game is basically this nice feeling of venturing onto a road with monsters, and the paths are nicely designed like some sort of mountain hiking path, and considering most of the set up of the game, these are all just regular paths to towns that due to a monster issue you gotta solve it, that's the gist of the plot: Monsters are messing with the town paths.
A lot of fun mechanics that make the experience even more of a breeze such as automatic organizing systems, hints of something greater with dealing with other characters to control... And then, it happens, the first few minutes of playing solo and then the real game begins: This is not just a Diablo clone, it is a Diablo Clone with RTS characteristics as you are basically starting an army as you go. Every piece of clothing has it's own model so yes, everything is very apparent in-game, and everything in-game even has their own map icons, you could play the entire game through the map honestly.
Of course, if there is anything to complain is that... The game feels repetitive, seriously. I don't know if I picked the wrong time to enjoy this game and it could have played a larger role in my life as a classic but despite all of it's quality of life aspects there isn't there much to keep you held throughout the game, and due to how the leveling situation happens, the more you do something, the better you are at it, thus, you end up doing only 1 thing throughout the game.
Most people legit seem to hate this game as a result of that, like no matter how many things it does right, the fact that it isn't the most addicting hack n slash game and it runs it's novelty quick despite all of it's effort, have most people just giving up on playing it after the first dungeons.
Excellent game. AB and I first game together. The ending was disappointing in multiplayer but many hours of entertainment! A-
Dungeon Siege is so much fun. It is a simple concept, hack and slash, collect loot and make your abilities stronger, you know, the standard stuff. Travel forward, murder everything that is not human and become the strongest farmer ever known to mankind.
The story in Dungeon Siege is pretty basic (save the kingdom, be the hero) but good enough to get you going. Although basic, there are many lore books that you can find throughout your journeys that tell tales about certain places, monsters, or heroes from the past.
The graphics, sound and music are epic for the period and the gives the game its unique feel. The glorious soundtrack at the beginning of the game gives you all the motivation you need to press forward. The animations are quite nice, like the electricity spells and the swinging animation of your staff.
The combat mechanics are unique. Instead of killing stuff and getting levels and experience, you chose what you want to become by using that specific kind of weapon. Want to become a mage? Zap and burn Krug’s to a crisp. Want to become the next Robin Hood? Pump every Furok full of arrows. Want to go full …

Zap and burn Krug’s to a crisp. Want to become the next Robin Hood? Pump every Furok full of arrows. Want to go full Rambo? Get your hammer and go smash on skeletons. The type of weapon you use will level up while using it, making you stronger and more proficient in that weapon and the feats assigned to it, like strength, dexterity, and intelligence.
Dungeon Siege is a massive game with a lot of variety and many different enemies. One moment you are in the forest, then in icy caves, then in a goblin stronghold and even in the dessert. Although everything is linear, you can explore paths that are not on the main road. Hidden treasures await.
The whole game is one big path forward. This makes the game quite unique. There are no levels, no loading times after the first load, just walk forward and eventually you cannot go any further and hell awaits you at the end of the line. And believe me, that will take a long time.
One of the best aspects of this game is the ability to store all your crap that you pick off the ground on pack mules, who walk casually beside you on your journey. They even have names and are freaking cute. No matter how old and simple this game is, even today when playing, I feel an emotional connection with those digital beasts of burden and the need to protect them with my life on my journey. A strange effect this game has on me.
There are some minor complaints from my end tough. The controls are very stiff and clunky and every time you click on the ground because you need to get the hell of here because a Forest Troll is about to make a coat from your skin, you hear click, click, click, click.
The combat is also slow as a slug, I personally like it because it lets me react faster and gives me more control of the situation, but sometimes, especially after you died and need to do a whole section over again, it can be tedious.
The only problem with the game is that no matter how high you leveled your skills, you almost do not see any difference in your damage dealt to enemies because they get tougher with every new area of the map.
Also, the camera can be a real pain in the butt sometimes.
When you finish this game, you reflect on your massive journey. You started at a farm, in a nice quiet forest, and became the hero of the kingdom. Just epic.
The bottom line is, Dungeon Siege is an absolute classic and I replay this gem any time. Almost pumped 221 hours of my pathetic life into this. Finished it on Normal and Hard, many times just for the fun of it.
Well, graphically this game clearly looks awful now but who cares, it's not about that. I guess the primary problem is now that while you can see the incredible influence this game has had on others, unfortunately, its progeny such as Torchlight completely blow it out of the water now making this feel like just a basic grinder.
Well I did it, played through the entire single player campaign. The best part was the monsters, I did enjoy seeing the new different varieties that would pop up. That was about it. There was a big world to explore, but not much plot to motivate you to explore it. Still, I'll be checking out the expansion and other games in the series.
