Had an excellent time playing this classic with a couple of friends, one of which cites this an an absolute favourite from his childhood. He couldn't remember many of the exact puzzle solutions but could remember enough that we had a good stream of hints to keep our pace pretty quick - about seven hours total playtime. With that being said, I did try this game once before on my own, and gave up early on and the game likely would have taken me much longer without the light guidance from my friend.

My friend also reminded me of some important context to the game. It was one of the first to fully utilize CD ROM technology on the PC and it can be seen in major features of the game. The game features sound effects heavily in several puzzles, and FMV is used heavily for exposition.

I'm rating this five stars because I am excited to play this game again - that 2020 remake in the Unreal engine with ray tracing looks mighty fine--however this game isn't without it's issues. I found the writing serviceable. The FMV scenes were very painful to watch. I might have had I been nostalgic for them -- my friend absolutely LOVES them. Overall, I enjoyed the puzzles it presented and can appreciate what it did for puzzle and PC games alike.

Top-shelf puzzling, great atmosphere and Great story. Certainly a classic, there's nothing quite like it.

Myst is a great game and a classic, but I gave it an average grade since I prefer to play it the "slide show" way. If you're more into free roaming you should grab the masterpiece edition of this one.
